"Made in Sheffield" 1830-1930, A golden age ?

Thanks to all for the confirmation. I find the 4 blade Senator to be a most exquisite pattern. I did not show a picture of all blades closed looking down onto blade spines. It would show how closely fitted the blades are to the liners yet there is no rub. This knife has a full center liner. The vintage Sheffield cutlers did this the best. I have some very fine vintage Henckels Senators which are a marvel, but just not quite to the perfection of the best of Sheffield.

Unbelievable knives, starting with Joe's senator and following.

I used to see two collections at Southeastern knife shows, one Joseph Rodgers, the other IXL. I think both belonged to Tennessee physicians and they displayed them side by side.

I think both have been broken up or changed hands, as I haven't seen either in several years.

Every knife in those display cases looked like these past few posted by KJ and PTradeCo.

Nothing like seeing highest quality Sheffield knives from Victorian Times. Nothing else compares, IMHO.

Brad your knives look like pages in "Sheffield Exhibition Knives". There are no better than what you have posted. Even owning one would be "WOW !", but all of these you have posted, i have no words. The crown jewels of Sheffield have moved to Missouri.

You said it all Charlie! At least once a month or so I find a quiet evening with a good cigar, glass of something appropriate, and pull out my old Sheffields. Soothes the soul to look at, touch, feel, such quality. I do the same thing occasionally with the few London Best doubles I have. Same thing. There is just something about quality!

I KNOW personally that some of the crown jewells reside in your collection. But your words are quite kind and appreciated.

Brad, I recognize some of those nice Sheffield pieces you're showing and I'm happy they are being appreciated. Here is one I still have and enjoy

WOW Brad and Charles, these are beyond pocket knives, these are real gems. Brad, the IXL congress knives are breath taking. Charles your knives are in their own league.

I would enjoy it as well!

Here are a few 3 spring examples. Some similar to yours Charles. And again, a couple you may recall! Lots of different patterns and blade profiles in these. The main, or center spring, has a lot of diversity; scissors, files, regular blades of steel, sterling or even ivory. I added a small Sportsman style 3 spring just to show variation.

Probably my favorite Sheffield 3 spring I own:

KJ, it is the one with the cork screw, button hook, stand alone pic.

It is a 3" knife and probably better termed as a Ladies knife. Small corkscrew for perfume bottles etc., scissors for small repair and a button hook, most likely for a Lady!

The Lobster pattern in the larger pic is not of finest quality in that it has a broken master but was shown mainly to display the diversity of blade profiles. Still a nice knife IMHO.
