Since this thread was just back up lets keep it going! New acquisition. I have been wanting a good example of a Quill Spring Knife for some time now and just came across this gem. AJ Jordan, post 1890 but certainly prior to 1930. Excellent pearl and overall great construction and condition. 2 3/8".

What is a "Quill Spring" knife ? I think all of the quill knives i have are ones with a spring, open & close with light snap. Is this what it means ? i.e. "Quill Spring" knife & "Quill" knife are 2 names for the same thing ?

Very nice Brad

Thanks Jack

KJ, Spring Knife is the older Sheffield, and possibly others, word for Slip Joint. I was just trying to distinguish between a folding Quill knife and a Fixed blade knife. A lot of Quill knives were of a short Fixed blade variety and it is difficult to find a good surviving example in a folder. This due as you mentioned to their light construction I suppose.

Brad that one is a beauty, congratulations!

Great knife Brad. Thanks for sharing it. A. J. (Andrew Jackson) Jordan was an American who had a St Louis based company. He imported knives from Sheffield and Germany. He opened a factory in Sheffield in the 1880s to ensure a supply high quality knives mostly for the American market.
