Made my first knife!

:thumbup:I see a career in knifemaking in your future.

Sick man! Great work. What color are you going to do the handles? Will it be a reverse edge?

I'm going with some nice black linen Ban has left over and a standard edge. Going to heat treat it and temper in a few hours. It should look sweet when it's done.

That thing is sweet. Looks like you have some hidden talent. We need to meet up soon.

TINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sup man. We miss you. How you been?

Heat treating went well, it's tempering right now. I first put it in at 475 degrees and it turned straw yellow (good, aiming for 59RC) after 20 minutes and later blue (bad, to soft/springy), so I cranked it back down to 450 and put it higher in the oven further away from the heat. I hope it works out well, I'd cry if it broke when I use it.

The edge is insanely sharp, the black linen is beautiful, and Ban's trademark Frosty finish is gorgeous! The handles are a little narrow towards the front because the starting piece was already screwed up so I had to work with what I had. Now it needs a some nice leather to go with it. It's going to be a user so we'll see how it stands up, I'll keep everyone updated.

I'd like to say a huge thanks to frogfish for helping me with the heat treat and putting up with my phone calls to make sure I wasn't screwing up the temper. It was really cool checking out his forging shop and all his equipment. It was really well organized too!

And I'd like to thank Ban for helping me out every step of the way. I left the knife in his hands overnight before we got started on the handles and he said he couldn't stand the scratches and surprised me with his trademark frosty finish the next day! Knife making takes some serious skills and Ban's got it. I have no doubt in my mind that he's going to be one of the top custom knife makers. You guys better keep an eye on him. ;)
