Madison Barlow Give Away. ***Winner***

Designed for EDC from the outset.
Barlow, #15 or #85
01 tool steel easy open wharncliffe or drop point
cap lifter secondary

Wow that's a pretty knife. I personally love Barlow's in all variations. But absolute favorite would be stag handled Barlow with traditional blade configuration. Although I'm also really loving all the blade variations....and hardwoods are really growing on me.

I'd love to see a bolstered Barlow with a 2 ¾" overall length when closed. That would be the ultimate change pocket knife to me!

The 93OT would be an almost perfect knife to me (as has already been suggested), but one knife that I'm always looking for that is a true classic is a small 3 1/4-3 3/8" serpentine jack. preferably rounded bolsters. I love this pattern, but there are not a lot of premium versions being made these days. There is something to be said for a classic pattern that disappears in the pocket! Thanks for hosting this GAW!

I'd also buy a Northwoods Eureka Jack with the rough heat treat finish and big northwoods stamp in a heartbeat. Single spear. Capped Jigged bone covers.

Derrick, What a great GAW. I would love to see a Northwoods Madison Barlow in Desert Ironwood Burl, that would be my grail.

Or any really nice folder like the White Owl with DIB slabs.

Thanks, Tom

I really like the idea of a Northwoods single spear gunstock (A LOT!), so I tweaked my original sketch a tad - just streamlined the handle a bit and made sure it would lay well closed.

However, this falls into the new pattern category, which would take all new tooling, so it's probably pretty unlikely. Still worth a try though!!!

Also, I wanted to give a big THANKS!! to folks that have commented - I really appreciate the gander! And, especially, a big THANKS!! to Derrick for asking us for input. This kind of customer interaction is what really separates the good companies from the great, and KSF is doing a great job. My wallet hates me, but the diversity in my collection looks fantastic!!!

Lastly, the bulk of these sketches are from created comments others have made in this thread. They need to get credit for the original ideas in the GAW - I'm just having fun posting some "what-if's", and would have done it regardless of a GAW.

I'd buy that Gunstock in a heartbeat. Looks gorgeous.

I've been drawn to the Beerlow for a long while now. I find a nice wide clip blade can do 90% of what I need it to do. While I can appreciate the little pen blade, my beer drinking habit..er, hobby does miss the cap lifter of the SAKs I used to carry.

Grail knife #2 would be a blue camel bone Madison Barlow.. Always low on funds when they hit the market.
Kind of my dream outdoors pack knife. If blades are carbon you could use as a firestarter. Same measurements on both drawings
I never claimed to be able to draw but here are my thoughts.

This could be on a whittler pattern with the double spring holding the saw blade open

onespdfrk- Check out my post at #105. No retooling needed. Use queen cut co to do the sfo. Queen has made this size gunstock for Mr. Shirley. Just add the fat "leaf" spear in Derrick's form, and presto. Sellin' like hotcakes.

Ahhh... you are correct - it would be pretty easy to throw a spear blade on the Queen frame. And it would look darn good to boot! I have a couple Queen gunstocks, but they're too small for me to carry at 3-1/2'', so they always stay at home.

I'm after something a little more substantial though, roughly the size of the Madison Barlow, about 4-1/4''. For me, the Madison is a perfect EDC size; Enough taters to get any job done, but slim enough to be easily pocketable. My preferred minimum size would be the Fremont at around 3-3/4''.

My fantasy gunstock shares the heavy bolsters of the Madison. Here's some dimensions for reference:

I see lots of people asking for caplifters and saw blades. This site is definitely filled with my sorts of people!

Derrick,
thank you for your contribution and generosity. I'll play the game, but this is not an entry.
I think the Schrade 93OT pattern could find a place in the Northwoods line (on GEC's #66 frame, with the turkish clip of the calf roper slim and the sheepsfoot of the stockman - without crinking them of course).

Ahhh, I have that model. Love the blade configuration, hate the plastic handle. It's what led me to my latest knife, a Great Eastern/ Northwoods model 82 in stag (#38)

I'd like that slim blade, as a single, no longer than 3 1/2 inches, in a trapper style handle, with scales in a recovered wood like birch from Lake Superior or "drowned" oak (think Falkniven.)
That'd be my ideal gentleman's knife.

Edited to add: I just saw a Northwoods Hawthorne. Ooohh so close! But a touch too long, and not a fan of the fat clip. Still want that slim clip blade and hardwood scales...

Not an entry but I want to play again :D
A single bladed gunstock based on Queen's 3,5" frame with a spear blade would be very nice.

I'd like to see a peanut or a 3.5" sunfish (either would be nice with a sheepsfoot or coping secondary).
