Magnum Camp!!!!

DAM YOU!!! in the best way possible,I was hoping to get mine first.
looking forwarded all the pics your about to post!!
well done sir!!!

Hi folks. I was just checking in and saw this, I have been off the forums for awhile.

This year is my 30th year of trying to figure out how a knife handles and cuts. Over the last several years you will notice the knives I make for myself to use and for my table are changing with very small "tweaks". This is simply to get the most out of a blade for its intended purpose. It is amazing how much just 1/16 inch or 1/8 inch will change the performance and looks of a knife.

Is the MC a heavy knife? No, it was never intended to be. It is designed to be able to carry without straining your milk hiking up and down the mountains, use for fish and field then at the camp that evening. Do not think I did not do this with the MC before hand with the prototype.

When my wife and I are out in the brush all day or camp, she never says, "Hon, why don't you pull out your big Becker and see what it will do, she always says, Hon, whup out your Becker that works really well and let's see what it will do."

Do I believe that is the most knife you will get for the dollars spent? Yes. I do use my knives. Hard, thats what they are for. I will not carry something into the field that does not work and work well.

TW, I do believe in the Kabar MC. Tell you what, if you want, go buy one and let me know here that you did and where you got it if you do not mind. Use it 60 days, if not fully satisfied that it is the best knife of that weight and dollars spent, send the knife to me with your orginal ticket and I will refund your money. My name is Jerry Fisk and I am a MC Beckerhead.

Hey Jerry,

Long time no see since Blade :)

I love your guarantee :) Of course, if people don't LIKE the knife, they can ALSO send it to me. postage paid perhaps ;)

Please do see the OTHER big Magnum Camp thread:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781846

and chime in there too. I included a diagram i made of the 3 generations of differences as best i could trace, and find specs. Pictures too, that I'm sure to bring back memories - your original 440 convex version :>

Sweet!

This Knife is growing on me. After going on my first camping RV'ing trip with my Beckers, the BK2 is just too thick to be a cutter for BBq'ing and preparing food. The Necker although great, is too big. Now this Magnum Camp seems to be the PERFECT tool for the job. I think I will get one.

Please help me to understand this knife, why not the brute.

they're radically different knives.

also a problem: you can't buy a brute brand new anymore. discontinued item that will not make a comeback.

the MC is a fantastic slicer. it can do a lot of the chores you'd want to do around camp with some elegance and finesse. it's not a, pardon the pun, a "brute". it'll make fuzz sticks and even split some fatwood/kindling nicely, possibly even baton some light stuff, and in an emergency, probably (choke it up), do some wondrous things, but i wouldn't BEAT on it everyday... slashing brush and brambles and vines? sure thing.

it's also light enough that you would want to carry it with you on a lot of trips, and probably end up using it a lot.

I'm more of a folder type guy and have only a handful of fixed blades. But when I saw this knife I felt that I had to have it. I absolutely love the upswept, Persian style blade! In the past I remember seeing some Magnum Camp knives, I believe the Camillus version, that had been stripped and polished and looked fantastic. Though I might have no real use for it I still plan to get it.

Went to Tomars website and saw that the micarta grips are available to fit it and they would be a must for me. Anyone know if a kydex sheath is available? I thought I saw one at CRKS, but when I went to check nothing was there.

quite a few of the earlier Becker knives aren't stripped, they're MADE that way. in particular, the Blackjack and earlier generations.

that bottom one is original, factory convexed, and a delight. there are some stripped Camillus models too. Some even were convexed post factory. Some had fantastic handles put on. One of the nicest ones I've seen is a Blackjack model with Osage Orange and big brass pin/covers. sweet.

the new model (pictured in the middle), is just dandy.

I didnt mean to compare the 2 knives, I wish they made the brute instead of the camp magnum.

Hi Trailbum, welcome to the forums. Ethan Becker has said time and again that the Brute is done with. Sure the Brute is cool and chops well but since it's not coming back you could look for a used one or buy a BK9. The BK9 is a good chopper, is currently avaliable and costs less then a used Brute.

Actually, the Brute doesn't chop well. Think of it more of a dedicated wood batoning tool. That's about all it does well. The short, thick blade really hurts the hand when your chopping. The tools that are being made now and soon, are lightyears ahead of the Brute, in every aspect. Forget about it, its not being remade, for a reason, it sucks. There I said it. Go on Bladite, flame me up, I got my nomex undies on.

what choo talkin' bout' joosez? i took the liberty of doing your undies in habanero soap ;) for batoning, obviously, the TakTool is the way to go ;)

yeah, the Camillus Brute isn't my favorite chopper. works okay, but is not outstanding. the original chopped better imho, but haven't been spoiled by some VERY good chopping implements, still not the best.

the Machax is my favorite Becker chopper bar none. the Combat Bowie is not bad, but well, i like khukris :)

Tell me about it, I loves the Kuks as well. I just landed my first Reinhardt Kuk, and will be gettin' in it in 2 weeks. I must say the seller is a step above. I'll post about it when I get it.

Oh, don't go pullin' out an Reinhardt pics and posting them, that would just suck, so don't DO IT. No, Bladite, you must not DO IT. Must not DO IT.

Some folks have neve seen or held a Reinhardt, so just don't DO IT.

Ok, go ahead, DO IT.:D

It chops better then a Magnum Camp doesn't it? At least the Blackjack Era one probably did. LOL Either way, I bet it's better then my USMC Kabar. I lusted after one for a while, but after getting my Camillus BK9, I really didn't need/want it any more. Now the Magnum Camp, I could totally go for and plan to buy in the next few months if I can.

You know, the Magnum camp has always reminded me up a persian style slicer that my mom has. Kind of a thicker, more woodsy take on it. Probably one of the reasons why I like the design so much. I do a bunch of camp cooking, Dutch oven mostly and would love to have a Magnum Camp in my grub box or on my belt around the fire.

Just got mine thursday (11/11) night when I returned home...I like the feel and balance very much. Friday I was cutting chicken, beef and veggies for the bbq. Light and easy to use. The wife wants it, so I'll probably have to get another one .

Under advisement of other dream killing members Ive decided to give up the brute and embrace the bk9, but I still do not like the camp magnum. Thankyou for your imput and advice.

Since, unfortunately I was excluded from the MC passaround... I picked up one of them today. :D

Awesome, can't wait for some pics of it gettin' used. Where you gonna start first, the kitchen or the campfire?
