Mammoth Mondays - because everyone feels extinct on Monday

Wow I love these pics. Thanks to everyone for sharing them. It's amazing the amount of variety every piece of mammoth has.

Same old freemont along with a small piece of granite I brought home from Huayna Picchu when I visited Peru a few years ago.

Next Monday I hope to show my next customized imperial for Mammoth Monday :)

Here are a couple that I no longer own but still have the photos. At present I have no Mammoth but that is subject to change at anytime.

That makes the first scrimshaw mammoth I have seen. Very cool.

How about an Imperial in Mammoth?

I tried to show a picture of some mammoth ivory bark that I bought locally, but photobucket isn't working right for me now. I'll re-post if I can get it to copy properly.

I'm back, think I got it now. The piece on the left is getting smooth and glossy, though not finished yet. The one next to it is untouched. The others are in between. An end cut shows beautiful yellow ivory. Because they are so heavily mineralized, and the bark has delaminated from the rest of the tusk, I would guess that these pieces are closer to 50,000 years than 10,000. Unbelievable that an animal who walked the earth tens of thousands of years ago can leave us such a usable material. It's got to be the most unique and desirable handle material.

How is that crosscut tusk secured to the liners?

Here's my contribution- I'll never do better than these photos:
