Man vs Wild

So it was the producer who told Bear to shove a tube up is pipes and get an enema with dirty water? And he did?
Then it's not only the producer who really cares about ratings...

That was one of the good survival tips in there, nothing to do with ratings :D

This is just a show for entertainment but my problem is he says "Ill teach you the skills to survive" Thats BS!!! he will teach some fool how to Die!!!

On the other show Survivorman with Les Stroud I really think that Les is more truthful and his show is more believable than Bear's is.

I found Les quite the entertainer when he was in the forrests of Washington, he was sleeping in an hollowed out tree by a river and he almost set himself on fire as he slept. He did this on more than 1 occassion as well IRRC.

Overall, I think it would be awesome to be in a postion to run around and explore the kinds of stuff that Bear and Les do. I'd love to be able to have the resources to take a week or 2 off work every couple months to go to see some exotic and interesting place.

The both give valid tips and are entertaining, which I think most folks have forgotten that's what TV is about. More folks live in cities than in the woods and live their adventures through these guys.

you know who i want to see do a survival show?

our two Bushcrafters in Drag....... :D

Mistwalker + Joezilla!

;):thumbup::cool:

They might look pretty silly walking around in the bush dressed like that :D, but you have to admit that they would give better info on survival than Bear ever has.

That show would rock!

At least he will be close to a Hotel/Motel room to rough it for the night, after a stop at Micky Dees.:D One of the worlds best comedy acts.

Bear Grylls is the best thing that ever happened to Less Stroud. Without M vs. W to make Stroud look good, we’d be nitpicking him to death.

By the by, Survivorman once did an urban survival show. I don’t know how to find it, I only caught a bit of it in passing.

I saw a clip of Bear using a bowdrill to start his fire. His technique was really wonky, his bow was not staying parallel to the ground, the arm holding the spindle wasn't locked against his shin. If I didn't know it before, this sealed it for me. He's no expert.

He seems like a nice guy and is certainly very fit. But I'm concerned that people in a serious situation might actually attempt to do something they saw Bear do on the show. And die.

is anybody else out of breath, just watching that show.

it allways seems like he is runing from somthing.

The bottom line is that Bear Grylls is simply a stunt man performing for a TV audience. He does offer some useful information in every show but he's really just an entertainer. I watch the show and enjoy it just like I enjoy watching those big air motocross competitions. In both cases I get to see someone doing some gnarly s**t that I would not do myself. I would prefer it he laid off the excrement consumption, though.

I hate to say it, but Bear Grylls is eventually gonna get himself really hurt or killed. Some of the recent episodes show him narrowly escaping really bad falls while trying to play Tarzan. I know he's ex-SAS and everything, but the risks he takes to "survive" just don't make any sense to me... but I still watch the show. LOL

The show is unrealistic, contrived, choreographed, and entertaining. Bear may be a bit of a fraud and stunt-man at times, but it is TELEVISION. I enjoy watching it and I will continue to watch it.

I know he's ex-SAS and everything,
He was in the RESERVES and got-- surprise!-- hurt before he could finish training. For some reason (hmmmmmmmmm) he never chose to go back.

It's obvious he didn't actually get around to the survival part of his training.

BTW, if you listen carefully, he now says at the beginning of every episode that he "served WITH the SAS" rather than claiming to be an SAS trooper.

I read that he DID get himself pretty seriously injured on some fairly recent antarctic based show. Had to be evacuated, etc.

I agree
- when you let go and watch it as entertainment with the odd intersting snippet the tension goes out.
- It is better for the kids to watch than Pokemon and dragon boosters

That said the South America show they had on here in Oz last night was a new low

However I found there is quite a following in Oz, and in my company- including amongst the pretty young girls in marketing and comms areas. It seems the Director is doing something right in telling Bear to take his clothes off to dry them once in a while!! - appealing to a demographic I had not expected!

What is the cup/canteen system that he always has with him?
