Manix 2 uneven blade grind

I just got a new Manix 2

It's beautifully made except for one thing, the saber grind is asymmetrical.

Out near the tip the bevel meets the spine about 5/32 further forward on one side.

Maybe I'm being too picky. Would this one bug you guys? Would it be covered under warranty or is it too insignificant?

It's unusual in my experience for that to happen with Spyderco, but no it wouldn't bother me not much anyway. I would just straighten it out myself. Due to my slip joint addiction it's something I'm accustom too!

Id probably look past that.. Assuming performance wasn't affected. My moon glow came that same way and still cuts with the best of them. My xhp and m4 versions came symmetrical and perform equally well (if not a tad better).

he is talking about the main hollow blade grind, not the edge bevels. unless he his a knifemaker there's no way he fixes this at home.

so if this bothers you send it back.

I have a hollow ground Manix 2 that's like that. I use it quite a lot and it's fine. I don't even notice the unevenness anymore.

While it doesn't effect the knife's performance, it does seem like a poor quality control issue.

I doubt it would be worth replacing, it's a very common production knife that is on the lower end of expensive. Sharpen it up and use it, otherwise just sell it and buy another. You didn't buy that knife on Amazon by chance did you?

just received my manix 2 and it has this problem. The hollow grind begins higher on one side. It's still beautiful and functional, but I didn't expect that from spyderco.

Mine had that as well. It didn't bother me. I beat the hell outta that knife. A great value for sure.

It never ceases to amaze me that people get these knives just to go over them with a fine tooth comb looking for ANY imperfection, rather than just using the knife. Why would you send the knife back? Do you think a couple thou of asymmetry is going to affect performance? Geez.

It is an 80 dollar knife. Quit staring at the asymmetric grind lines and cut with it. Or don't and just buy a custom so you can stare at it's perfection all day.

I do find that I notice the imperfections when I'm not using a knife. I also find that I don't notice rough liners, off-center blades, and uneven grinds while I'm using a knife.

Should have bought one of the original HEST/F's. Then you'd really have something to complain about. :D Here, not so much. I'd just use it.

Amen bro! My thoughts exactly. If you want near perfection then buy a custom or CRK. There are going to be slight imperfections in anything you buy. Even a new $40,000 auto is going to have imperfections. As shooter said, it's a $80 dollar knife. It's not going to be perfect but that won't stop it from being a great knife once you get over the minor imperfections and just use it for what's it's intended to do.

It just bothers some people, some people are obsessed with perfection. Now i know it's too much to expect an $80 dollar knife to be perfect, but it can be frustrating to some people when they have much cheaper knives that don't have blade grind issues and there $80 dollar knife does, it's just a bit of a downer really. I'm sure a lot of other people don't care and would just use it, but we are all different.
