It just bothers some people, some people are obsessed with perfection. Now i know it's too much to expect an $80 dollar knife to be perfect, but it can be frustrating to some people when they have much cheaper knives that don't have blade grind issues and there $80 dollar knife does, it's just a bit of a downer really. I'm sure a lot of other people don't care and would just use it, but we are all different.
Here I agree with you, How do significantly cheaper Knives get it right, and the slight premium of supporting a solid Brand in the industry get wrong quite a bit? My Starmates where so wrong, I sent them back, costing me approx $140.00 in shipping and customs all together, in retrospect, I would have them reground, but only as I have a custom Maker who is prepared and tolerant enough to do it, would have been cheaper too.
It never ceases to amaze me that people get these knives just to go over them with a fine tooth comb looking for ANY imperfection, rather than just using the knife. Why would you send the knife back? Do you think a couple thou of asymmetry is going to affect performance? Geez.
It is an 80 dollar knife. Quit staring at the asymmetric grind lines and cut with it. Or don't and just buy a custom so you can stare at it's perfection all day.
Even Customs are not perfect. It is a personal thing, if it bothers you, you will allways nitpick at it, best to be rid of it.
If we used every knife we have, would that not be awesome, truth is some we like to look at and use less, I use my customs more than my production knives, after all they are purpose designed with a better heat treat, but each to their own.
I just got a new Manix 2
It's beautifully made except for one thing, the saber grind is asymmetrical.
Out near the tip the bevel meets the spine about 5/32 further forward on one side.
Maybe I'm being too picky. Would this one bug you guys? Would it be covered under warranty or is it too insignificant?
If it bothers you, get rid of it- get another that is better ground, It would bother me, now I just get them reground, but is another story, I live elsewhere in the world, so shipping and customs are an issue.
