Manix 2 uneven blade grind

It never ceases to amaze me that people get these knives just to go over them with a fine tooth comb looking for ANY imperfection, rather than just using the knife. Why would you send the knife back? Do you think a couple thou of asymmetry is going to affect performance? Geez.

It is an 80 dollar knife. Quit staring at the asymmetric grind lines and cut with it. Or don't and just buy a custom so you can stare at it's perfection all day.

Exactly....

It's only an $80 knife for Pete sakes just use the freaking thing instead of staring at it looking for things that might be wrong with it.

This whole thing about looking for perfection on cheap knives is really getting old, really old.

Some people just need to stop buying knives and find something else to do or spend some real money on higher end knives.

Just got first SPYDERCO(manix 2) today and it has the same thing. Mine is a DLC coated blade not that that makes any difference. But for $100 I would expect it to be symmetrical. If I was buying a Chinese knockoff I would expect this.. Everything else about the blade is perfect. Sent the retailer a email asking about it.

My first Gayle Bradley was the same way. It was .055" different from one side to the other. I contacted spyderco and sent it in. They sent me a new one and its perfect!

It just bothers some people, some people are obsessed with perfection. Now i know it's too much to expect an $80 dollar knife to be perfect, but it can be frustrating to some people when they have much cheaper knives that don't have blade grind issues and there $80 dollar knife does, it's just a bit of a downer really. I'm sure a lot of other people don't care and would just use it, but we are all different.

Here I agree with you, How do significantly cheaper Knives get it right, and the slight premium of supporting a solid Brand in the industry get wrong quite a bit? My Starmates where so wrong, I sent them back, costing me approx $140.00 in shipping and customs all together, in retrospect, I would have them reground, but only as I have a custom Maker who is prepared and tolerant enough to do it, would have been cheaper too.

Even Customs are not perfect. It is a personal thing, if it bothers you, you will allways nitpick at it, best to be rid of it.

If we used every knife we have, would that not be awesome, truth is some we like to look at and use less, I use my customs more than my production knives, after all they are purpose designed with a better heat treat, but each to their own.

I just got a new Manix 2

It's beautifully made except for one thing, the saber grind is asymmetrical.

Out near the tip the bevel meets the spine about 5/32 further forward on one side.

Maybe I'm being too picky. Would this one bug you guys? Would it be covered under warranty or is it too insignificant?

If it bothers you, get rid of it- get another that is better ground, It would bother me, now I just get them reground, but is another story, I live elsewhere in the world, so shipping and customs are an issue.

LOL, I did just that, and you know what, there are problems here too Jim, win some / lose some.

Even the Legends in the Industry can get it wrong.

I believe that it is a personal quest and about what you are prepared to accept.

I don't see it being to picky or searching for perfection. I feel as though you should get what you pay for, And others have said it perfectly.. Lesser quality knife makes can make a even blade and can't see why spyderco can't do the same. I did email them and sent me the form letter saying send it back and they will see what they will do. I must admit I love the way it carries in my pocket. Nice little knife otherwise

There are Doctors that can help with those issues through therapy and medication... ;)

I need both of those but can't afford them lol.

On the subject of steel and the manix 2's; seeing as how you know a lot about steel, would it be more difficult make the grinds even on the S30V blades compared to the 154cm blades? I've heard it's harder to machine, though i don't know if that makes a difference.

I understand people being picky, their are spending money on a knife, if they aint happy just send it back.
Not everybody is gonna understand....im real picky ive sent knives back for stupid lil crap, if i didnt it would have drove me crazy. People should see not everybody is not the same. That being said...just got a manix 2 xl and its good to go!!! :)

Some people dont have money trees growing in their back yards. ;)

Like the manufacturer? Don't worry about them though, I think they have some of those money trees.

Glad you're happy.

These knives are hand ground & finished by knifemakers in Seki. If it bothers you to the point you can't live with it then return it for replacement. I doubt anybody would begrudge you being happy. Not everybody is like that but it doesn't mean anybody is right or wrong. Either returning or keeping, enjoy the knife. It's a fine user and should last, and last....etc.

I don't even care anymore what the edge looks like as long as its not out of hand bad, as soon as I get any new folder I re-profile it to my liking anyway lol

Nah...im talking about people getting upset with their knives...other people are saying
"its only a 100.00 knife" to some people thats alot of money.

100 bucks is alot of money. I'm referring to nit picky reasons to send a blade back, like an uneven grind. I think it's important people understand this is a product made by hand by a craftsman, it's not a computer program that's the same every time. With all the problems finding Para2s, maybe if Spyderdo didn't have to deal with bs returns they could focus on making new blades.

There are real problems with new blades sometimes, it happens, but half of what I see are no big deal.
