Manix 2 -- why???

Wait for the flat ground, but meanwhile I highly recommend that you pick up a Lum Chinese. This is the first knife I plan on buying a duplicate of I like it so much.
Thanks for the recommendation -- I did just place an order for one of these, while I wait around for the flat ground Manix 2 to appear. I have always wanted a Lum Chinese but every time I was ready to make a purchase before, they had all mysteriously evaporated from the dealer shelves.

i'm sure it is a nice knife...but i don't see how it could be designated as "manix2".

1) different steel.
2) different grind.
3) different locking mechanism.

my guess would be that everyone (myself included) was expecting an improved version (if that is possible) of the original, even if it was somewhat costlier.

no question that many people will size it up and say to themselves, "i'll just buy the tenacious, hell they damn near look the same and it costs a helluva lot less".

my experience has been that spyderco does not make many mistakes; in fact they are one of the very few companies that imho have improved the quality of their product over the years as opposed to degrading it by cutting corners. this model represents a very interesting marketing strategy, and only time (and the release of their next manix2 models) will tell if the strategy is prudent.

Not all of those things should disqualify this knife as a "Manix." The different lock, for example, is an improvement, at least to me. The steel is okay; it brings the price down. I wouldn't be able to afford it if it were the $130 that the original cost.

I certainly see the "Manix" in this knife. I only wish it was a full-flat grind. I don't feel that a saber grind does this Manix 2 any justice at all, and it is the only reason I'm holding out.

Honestly, I've been thinking about it.

How in the world are people seeing a closer resemblance to the Tenacious than to the other Manix versions? I honestly don't understand it whatsoever.

Tenacious is a great knife *for the price*. If the tenacious cost 50% more then I doubt many would be so interested in it, a Chinese made knife with low end blade steel for $60 isn't very appealing.

Manix 2 is incredible for the price, and at 50% more would still be appealing. For $120 an American made knife with ball lock wouldn't be way out of line.

At current prices, I would much rather have 1 Manix than 2 Tenacious for the same $$. The new Manix is ranking right up there with my ZT 0300, Hinderer XM-18, and D2 Paramilitary as favorite EDC's, and it's far less expensive than any of them. All the Tenacious I have purchased have been gifted away as I never carried them. I bought them because they are great knives for the price, but nothing stands out about it as being very special compared with other knives (besides the price)

Manix 2 stands out from the crowd, IMO.
