Manix II CTS- XHP

I guess I just don't understand why one would continue not only to purchase or purchase in the first place, a design they feel is flawed, from a company they have issue with, solely for a steel they think is one of the best in the industry.

For the same reason I hear people call radio talk shows all year long thinking they can manage the Red Sox better than they guy who already holds the position and has two World Series championships under his belt - because if one thing they ever say turns out to be right it validates, in their mind, everything they've ever thought on the subject. Baseball, knife steels, whatever, some people just know beyond a shadow of a doubt they've got it all figured out from their position. Nevermind the benefit of hindsight and changes that come about from factors unknown and unforeseen. They had it pegged from the jump and they're going to let you know about it 'til the cows come home.

Dead horse, brick wall, on and on and on.

Once again...

Point taken.....they know everything about everything, just ask them they'll tell you.....hell, they'll tell you even if you don't ask!

Quite honestly, the more I use CTS-XHP, the less I like it. It's a decent steel, but I've found there are others I like quite a bit beter. It's not the end all, be all. I certainly wouldn't buy a knife who's design I took issue with, from a company I took issue with, just for a blade in it. I'm not positive I'd buy another knife in it at all.
waaaaaaaa, even with the recent purchase of the 0551 the only folder ii have been carrying iss my xhp manix because it holds and edge for me that much better then elmax or any other stainless(have yet to get my hands on s90 ,do have cts 20cp on way). I say stainless cause the rust in the well this year at plant nursery is worst I have ever seen it. That is in turn what makes collecting knives so great ,using ,appreciating, testing, finding are own results and comparing with others on the forums. That's where I get my fun out of it all. Xhp xm 18 will be waitng for me in mailbox when I get home aaaaahhhh longest work day ever!!!!!!!!will post pics tonight!

waaaaaaaaa?

I'm glad XHP works well for you. Enjoy it. You're right, that's what makes collecting knives so great. I prefer several other steels over XHP..some by a large margin, based solely on what I use them for, in the environment I use them in, sharpened in the way I sharpen them on the schedule I sharpen them. It's a good steel. The more I use it, the less I like it for me. The point of the post you quoted is not an issue with XHP or Spyderco but with a certain person, their posts, and the way they seem to twist anything they read or hear to meet their own narrow and in some cases convoluted views. Enjoy the XM. Absolutely beautiful knife. I look forward to seeing pics.

I do not have any problems unlocking the Manix2. We must be a rare breed I guess. I pinch the polymer cage with 2 fingers and disengage the lock, pretty much an intuitive action if one is has coordination and a slight amount of dexterity.

Oh most of us do it with two fingers but he closes it with just a thumb. Gosh, superpowers.

Ghetto wave ,,haha. I never liked that setup .scares the common folk and is dangerous imo

All this does not make lock better, isn't it? You still can not open it with one finger, without fixing it yourself...

Thanks, Vassili.

I have a knife that I can unlock with no fingers, so it must be twice as good, right?

Since when is the number of fingers needed to open a lock important? I thought resistance to closing was how locks are supposed to be judged.

I honestly can't remember a single time when my thumb was free but my fingers were all busy...while still holding the knife.

I do not really think this is credible.

First he suggest to Boycott Spyderco based on the fact that they did not done good job on Manix II lock.

Second he talk about using this steel, but no clue how - just this:

..."based solely on what I use them for, in the environment I use them in, sharpened in the way I sharpen them on the schedule I sharpen them"...

to me it looks like we do not have credible base for any conclusion - this is not about manila rope, or cardboard or something credible.

He complain about me twisting this and that, but look what he is doing? No single facts or example just quite a bit of empty words. I guess we have another "steel expert" here.
He did not even mention any other steel he prefers.

Thank you for confirming that. It's not a language issue. It's a "Northbound end of a Southbound mule" issue. It's a good thing the world has experts like you sir. I'm certainly not worthy.

Spydusse,

I am just seeing the blue boxes with the question mark in them. I'm guessing they are the pics of your XM 18. How do you like it?

Yeah I use fotki it doesn't work for first few hours then just starts working.....I dunno . Its a amazing blade .the way it feels in hand made mee think ,so this is what a knife is suppose to feel like iin hand. Cons, blades off center and it has an extremly light detent.

Spydusse, congrats on getting your XM 18.

Did you get one in XHP, or one of the other steels? I'm curious as to your opinion. Like the ZT 551 the XM 18 isn't going to be a great slicer compared to a Caly jr, or Stretch in ZDP but that's design and geometry rather than steel making the difference.

With the Elmax I didn't get good performance until I took a Speedform 2 and thinned it out substantially. Then it did ok. That's the problem with going from super slicers to tanks. Though it's sure not a great slicer I really like the ZT 551 and plan on keeping it. It's sure built well and I don't see it breaking under reasonable use.

Yeah its xhp . I just love xhp .at work on droid ,the best fastest way to describe xm is if a sebbie and an 0551 had a kid. Yes mastiff, only been at work for two hours and I already see it does not deal with twoply twine as well as my manix. That said once i the factory edge dulls I plan on putting it to thirty degrees on edge pro . If I had to take a guess its at 40 right now, pure guess though.
