manliness and the traditional knife

By all that is holy what did i do??
*shudders*
what is seen cannot b unseen
some things man is not meant to know
**brain S'plodes**

getting back on topic, lets look at this question in reverse.
do you not feel that people feel your NOT an adult or responsible when your not allowed to carry a knife at all
on planes, court offices etc etc

being TOLD i CANNOT carry my pocket knife makes me feel less than manly, or adult for that matter

Sorry guys, It seems I started something here.:D

Not the first time friend (5 pics of the same Charlow in a row- intimidation!) and to answer the question - NO - my knife makes me feel like I can cut anything! :D

and knives are cooler than most men I know, and a few gals as well! :D

Hahahahaha

Is that really you Ken? For real?

Sorry Gary - I just had to ask! :D

Sadly my greatness doesn't extend that far . :)
If it was me I wouldn't have posted it for fear of being recognised in public .
Sorry if I've sidetracked this thread .

Ken

Get back on topic, please. I reserve the right to make that image disappear. My gag reflex is kicking in right now.

The topic is not really even about knives but about feelings. This has nothing to do with Traditional Knives.

No doubt it's on the line, Bob. If it doesn't get back on topic, such as it is, it'll get closed.

I started carrying a pocket knife when I was seven. I've carried pocket knives every day since. Through puberty, and adolescence, and adulthood. Through a career and into retirement.

It’s hard to see how pocket knives were a significant variable on the issue of manliness.

Honoring my word. Maintaining my commitments. Being true to my values. Supporting friends and loved ones. Such issues impact my value as a man.

Carrying a pocket knife? Not so much.

I only started carrying over the summer. I am in my 30's, and a knife has not made me "feel" more manly. Now that I am back at work, and can not carry, I do not feel as though I am less of a man. I believe the key word in the quote above is "value" and a knife does not define my value nor my identity. I enjoy them but carry few. Actually, I hope to be the type of man that gives my carry knife a type value or identity to those who may inherit it.

So I suppose the question for me is: Am I being manly (as defined in the quote above) enough to give value to my knife? Not, is my knife giving me a value of manliness?

Since when did knives equal a disgusting image of chest hair guys? Come on, I want to know your feelings regarding knives not the mustache.

The best answer in this thread was that a knife made him feel more of a man as in Homo Erectus. Man is a tool user.

Of course the thread has pointed out to me that "man" in this case, meaning mankind, includes women as well.

Women actually probably used knives more in prehistory with men using spears, I dunno.

So tools make me feel a bit more "manly" I guess. I guess that is a bit sexist on my part.

Sorry for my contribution to the side tracking. When I hear a word over and over (manly) the voices whisper things to me.

This thread has descended into the gleeful and ridiculous. I'm enjoying it, but I agree with Bob. I don't think it belongs here in traditional.

Gents, I'm going to try to help get this back on topic:

Manly???????????????

There, that oughta do it! OH :D

I know this may be somewhat ambiguous and perhaps completely erroneous but here goes anyway. When you carry a traditional knife do you feel just a little bit more manly? For whatever reason when I strap on a belt and a SAK or slip a traditional lockback in the pocket I feel like I am ready to face the day. (apologies to the ladies)

More manly? Absolutely, using tools is what separates Man from Beast. I don't know how many times I have seen some idiot in an office gnawing their way into a mailed package because they are too dumb to find a suitable tool. Evolution and knives go together and it's good to be among the evolved.
