Now, this reminds me most of a sodbuster of sorts with a slightly lower point, while on the 'back side' there be that awful clip thingy, I'll not show that side as it is something you can remove to make it more traditional, BUT this is such a great folder I just had to share it with you guys and gals here in Traditional.

It is moderate to large size folder, but as I've said before with a company by the name of Manly, you'd expect no less
Closed it measures at 4 1/2" and it's blade of German steel is at 3 1/2" the steel is called...and engraved on the blade as 1.2379 which I've heard tell a close cousin of D2 and she arrived blisteringly sharp, they did good on this folder.

The opening, you see what looks like a nail nick, but it is more for decoration than use for opening, as it is not ground in deep enough for a nail to really catch hold on, so this is a pinch blade opening type knife and it is pretty hard to open too, but that also equates to an equally hard kept open blade by that strong back spring.

It has SEVERAL stops along the way to being open, I've not taken the knife apart, even though they do include an allen wrench in case you need to, nice touch. But as you first pull it open it has a light detent then at the half a much stronger detent, then yet another light detent ending with a solid blade in place while opened.

I envision that in the back spring is a V cut into it, so that the corners of the blade tang drop into that V providing some soft stopping points, I've grown to like it's opening feel. And another interesting aspect is at closed, and half way open and full open, the back spring is flush! nice detail indeed.

Also someone noted that when closed you see the tang end has a ground down angle so it isn't so harsh while in the pocket.

And for a very very modest fee with all the above, it makes it the G2 recommendation of 2016 :) Here are some images of this slipjoint folder;

I suggest that those that enjoy a sodbuster AND have good hand/grip strength to open the blade, take a look at this folder, a couple of Bladeforums dealers have these in stock, I got this one from Blade HQ

I just bought a Case Sodbuster Jr. two weeks ago and love it. I really like A2 too. Not much experience with D2. But it looks cool!

Thanks Frank, it's such a nice knife and has that overall traditional feel I wanted to share with the folks here, I'm quite engaged with this, the blade is ground down fairly thin too so it slices like CraZy, can't say enough good things about it.

and it's stayed in the G2 house for a while now, that alone speaks volumnes :)

As a manly man with a Bulgarian wife, I may have to look into these.

wow, that sounds like it was meant to be, how could she argue with a knife from Sofia ?? :)

With SR101, and most "regular" steels, how would it be? I like stones.

I've not had to sharpen it yet, cut quite a lot of cardboard and some whittling, still razor sharp as it arrived, but I also use stones and I wouldn't expect it to be much of a challenge really.

It should be similar to D2, which is a much more common blade steel than SR101.

Tthe blade is ground down fairly thin too so it slices like CraZy,

More coolness. I was about to ask about the grind.

Indeed it does. You normally swap around more frequently than Solomon did with his 700 wives and 300 concubines.

Sweet! I love A2. As long as I don't have to have a sharpening system that cost nine time my knives - and I have some expensive knives.

Gary that is a very nice looking knife and it does have much the same appeal as a Sodbuster of which I'm a big fan. I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Thanks for the review, Gary. I'm impressed that you're impressed by this Manly knife!
Did I miss a description of the handle material? Obviously some kind of synthetic covers, right?

Frank, your comment made me snort mightily, which earned me a dirty look from my wife! :D

Hehe, you should hear my family when a new knife lands at our door steps and I say THIS is the one....right....:)

And yes it is G10 and jigged or textured to a nice grip that is not too coarse but feel very comfortable in the hand as well as secure in use.

Hmmm, Boker knife. And BladeHQ says D2 steel. I guess saying D2 makes it easier to sell... And the clip days "Manly" right on it, hmm.

Profile looks nice though!

I bet this knife doesn't make it past March :). Hehe

Haha I'll take that bet as its not your typical slip joint folder :)

Interesting knife! I like the profile of the blade and the texture of the covers:thumbup:
