Manly folder from Bulgaria

The only thing I miss on my big sodbusters is a usable point and this looks like it has one. They say it is hollow ground but can't really tell from the pictures.
Just ordered a black one.

Not hollow ground, flat ground, nicely done!

For how that lever works, move out to about 12 minutes into this video, of course if you understood what he was saying it would help but you should be able to get the idea.

Here's a quick shot of the orange/black one, it arrived just this sharp, same as the black handled one did, they do arrive pretty sharp!

Very cool! I hadn't yet stumbled upon the video, thanks.
While the sodbuster type is pretty neat, I must say I'm smitten by the locking model, with the Laguiole-style backspring. I will definitely be ordering one, as soon as the knife budget allows.

I fear I too have fallen victim to the siren song. Who knew Gary could even carry a tune?

I can carry one but not very far ;) glad to be an enabler of sorts, these are very good for the $ for sure !

Thanks for sharing this great find Gary. I haven't been tempted by anything new in some time. This one looks like a winner

Most welcome and I do feel that it is a great find as well ! I use Nano Oil on the joints of my folders, always have, seems to work well at least for me, I know there is controversy about almost everything. But when I applied some oil to it, as I worked the knife it flushed out some darker oil that they must have had inside, so be alert for that if you oil the joint...as you should anyways :)

You know, I do feel that I could use just this folder and not miss any other ones, like the overall feel and how well it cuts, glad I found these !

Well it came in this afternoon, and it's a keeper. I took a couple quick cell phone pictures. Color is a bit blue but that's my lack of photo skills & not the knife. It's actually black & gray.

At 4 ½ inches it's a ½ inch shorter than a buck 110 but the blade is only ¼ inch shorter at 3 ½ inches. It weights in at 3.95 oz. compared to the 110's 7.5oz. The handle is .550 thick compared to the 110's .620.

It's flat ground & measured .105 where it steps down ahead of the tang and about .017 or a bit less above the edge. This will be an amazing slicer. Like Gary said it is sharp out of the box a little course but no burrs at all. Sliced paper with out tearing and easily push cut a phone book.

By the way that's the first Time I've ever tried to push through a phone book. So I tried it with 3 other knives, it's good thing I never use phone books.

I checked the steel app before buying & 1.2379 is D2 with just a bit more chrome.

It's got a heavier spring than I'm used to, so I'll pinch it to the first stop then re grip & open it the rest of the way. The spring has a rounded notch in it that creates the extra stops.

The handle is comfortable to hold with good grip but it might be hard on pants pockets so the clip is coming off & I'm looking for a belt sheath. I guess that same textured handle would help secure it to a belt.

Either way the clip is coming off & I'll look for a 110 size belt sheath.

Nice Dean and yes, they be sharp eh? I just love mine, the clip doesn't seem to cause much wear on the trousers yet, as the grooves are not as crisp like some g10 scales can be, so it may be ok to carry.

Thanks for the images! and anyone else that picks one up, please feel free to add yours here too, just do not show the clip side...frowned upon here in the Traditional section, so we can just be happy with the one side :)

Dangit Gary, this is HUGE by my standards, but it's got me thinking.

I know Paul, it's a sizeable folder but sometimes, you need a little bit larger blade...price is right :)

Folks, discussion or pictures of that feature which makes the knife not actually suitable for Traditional will get the thread moved to General.

Gary, you're a pusher.....

I couldn't resist any longer, so these 2 coming home to me - direct from Bulgaria!

I had an old Buck Lite that I gave to a fishing buddy but I kept the sheath as protection for a AA flashlight. The appendage that I will not mention is now gone.
I found a knife with close to matching dimensions, so a new sheath is on the way.
The sheath say's Buck and the knife Manly, I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere.
Sharpened it this morning, factory edge was 18 degrees per side & that's where I'll leave it.

I can't figure out what that metal tab is, about a third of the way from the butt end of the handle.
Anybody know?

That certainly shows how the lock works better, thanks

Nice, my wife hates when I do that, but I didn't harm any of the phone numbers so what's the big deal :)
Some knives have a much steeper bevel and have trouble doing that, but still are sharp blades too.
