It was warm and sunny today. Started getting my gear together for a little hike over on Jekyll Island, GA. Somehow I broke my molded sheath for my ESEE-6. Doh! It just broke. No problem. I have a Spec-ops for it, I just grabbed my ESEE-4. The 6 might scare the sheeple if they saw it anyway.

The local 4H Club has expanded the maritime forest trail. Lot of machete work.

They even built little foot bridges across the small swamps.

I used my ESEE-4 to cut back a palmetto that was hanging in the trail.

Some of the palmettos are way over my head, 7 to 8 ft. They have these huge snakey roots. I used my Izula II some, making a skewer and doing some notching. This is an amazingly comfortable and handy little knife. Mine stays in my hiking vest.

Nice pics! Thanks for posting.

Oh, and I have a spare sheath for that 6 if you want to replace it.

Great photos Horn Dog, I always look forward to pics from your area. I love the idea of the ESEE-6, I have argued with myself for two years over it. Looks like an awesome knife and if I spent as much long term time in the woods as I once did I would have ordered one. As it is my time is spent in a mix of urban and wilderness so I just ordered another ESEE-4. The 4 is one tough knife and a "bigger" knife than first meets the eye. It's a very capable tool and can still be carried discretely if the need arises.

Great pics!! Thanks for sharing.

Let me preface this by saying--I am not complaining--but I have just broken the sheath from my 6 also. I ordered another from Dale at TKC--problem solved. I think the cold weather up here in the north plays havoc on the plastic and kydex style sheaths. I should have been using my leather one from JRE, but I just really like the plastic sheath system for its versatility.

The ESSE-4 did fine today, even as a mico-machete. If it wouldn't scare the other hikers, who usually avoid the areas I hike in, I'd carry the Junglas. But they would see me coming out of the bush with that big knife. They run away now when I just try to say hello!

Am I just scary looking? I'm just a fat old man.

Great pics as usual Horn Dog! It looked like one great day in Georgia today. Glad to see you had time to get out on the trail.

Horn Dog,

I love the Brunswick area. I've hiked around both Jekyll and St. Simon's Island! I was just out there in December for some training. Great pics!

It has been colder than normal down here, too. I never had kydex break, but the molded one did. No problem. My Spec-Ops sheath works just fine.

Hakuna matata!

It was unusually cold when I was there in December.

We ate at a BBQ place on St. Simon's near the airport that is still calling my name! Wish I was still there.

Next time you come down, give me a holler. We can slam a few cold ones at Bourbon Street Bar. You must have eaten at Southern Soul. Good stuff. Gary Lee has some great BBQ as well.

I can't remember the name of the place but they had a big grill/smoker out front and it think it was in a round about intersection.

At anyrate, I might be out there in July. If so, I'll hollar and we can do a mini ESEE get together! Enjoy the weather.

HD: email me your shipping address and I'll send you a new sheath. jeff@eseeknives.com

Nice photos as always. Patrick Rollins and I did a little hike today also. The George Disney trail in Georgia. With a 35 pound it literally kicked my ass!

Yeah, that was Southern Soul near the roundabout. The place had burned down so they were doing it all outside. They have rebuilt.

Here is another shot from the trail today on Jekyll.
