Hello all,

Just wanted to post a friendly warning. I placed an order for a Mayhem flipper from Mark Terrell May 29th, a $350 down payment. He told me to expect it in 4-6 weeks, no problem. June 17th I was told it was finished, so I sent the other $350 and thought that was that. I didn't receive any communication until July 11th, in which he said he experienced personal trouble but that it would be done shortly. I told him not a problem, then didn't hear from him until August 4th. He told me he was sending the knife out immediately. At this point I realized I was being jerked around, but since this is the first custom I have ordered I thought it might just be how it goes. I asked for a refund, and was told he didn't have the money. September 12th he "guaranteed" I would have the knife in my hand by the week, same on the 30th which is that last I have heard from him.

I have had a few other members contact me with the same issue recently, and I would give him the benefit of the doubt if I wasn't still out $700. In the past week his website went down, and his email is bouncing my messages back to me. I have no idea what to do as I have missed the deadline for protection from the bank, so now I am just warning others. I can post screenshots of emails if anybody wants proof.

I would love if someone could give me a way to contact him, or any other advice really, as I have no way to do so without his email.

Thanks and sorry for the long read,
Kyle

Good idea, I was searching for some way to get a hold of him! Thanks.

Edit: I sent them a message.

Yeah, I saw that a little too late. I had researched him and saw a lot of good, and I contacted some of the bad reviews and the few of them that responded said they got theirs, but I'm a little more worried based on my interactions with Mark and the other members that are having trouble. Especially since his site and email are down...

I too have issues contacting Mark... I paid in full $400 for a Hangnail DE. Heard nothing but good about the man, I can understand some delays as the guy is a father, and can have some personal stuff get in the way. I first emailed him in early September about the knife... he said he had a few around that he was about to put up for sale and he'd reserve me one. I paid him in full on the 17th to which he said he'd ship Friday.

He sent me an email telling me that himself and his child have been sick, again, totally understandable as I'm a rather patient person. He told me did indeed ship Friday, I received no knife and followed up. He told me he'd get to the post office and ask what happened to it. Due to flooding, it was misplaced in a sort center, Mark wanted to make sure it had no water damage or anything before shipping it back out.

Afterwards he dropped a bit out of contact... Nothing until I started texting his cell. He sent me a long response detailing that his area has been hit with really heavy flooding and he hasn't been able to get it out, he seemed rather apologetic about the lack of contact, and told me that the weather has downed internet in his area.

That is very interesting Revived. Thanks for the info, sorry you are experiencing it too. Not sure if I would fully believe it or not, he told me and a few others some different excuses around the same time, though I hadn't heard from him since October at all.

Edit: is there anyway you could email me his number? I can't pm you or anything.

He has $625 of my money for a mayhem I ordered a couple months back. He told me similar things regarding flooding and equipment issues at first, but now does not respond to me at all in either email or phone/text. I also wish I would've found these warnings prior to ordering because I am also at a loss of what to do now. His address listed a P.O. Box. Does anyone know if the moderators could post a warning on this forum or ban him from taking people's money through this site at least?

And does anyone know if his local police could get involved and help us out at all? Just trying to come up with ideas...

He is on the green forum from what I understand. His membership here lapsed, his forum archived, and he's not been back since. You may want to try him there as well.

Hey Guys,
Does anyone here have a phone number for Mark so that I may try and contact him? Having a strangely similar problem, different excuses though. Thanks for the help.

I put down a $320 deposit and ordered a WSK from Mark in the beginning of August. Mark informed me that August 23rd my knife would be done so I sent the remaining balance of $320. No knife. After numerous contacts with Mark he said he was having problems with the post office due to a credit card he reported stolen that was linked to his account. After 2 attempts to ship it to me he said he would personally pay cash and ship it out. Still no knife. I have been in business for myself for over 18 years dealing with people on a personal, face to face level. I have never let my personal life of anything else big or small effect the relations I have with my customers. If I ever inconvenienced them in any way, I went above and beyond to make things right. That is what you do as a business owner, and as a man. Morality, integrity, and your word are all key elements to the foundation for being a man. I do what I say I am going to do when I say I am going to it. Simple. Before doing business with Mark I read lots of good reviews saying he was an honest, standup guy. Now I am not saying he isn't but this is not how you conduct yourself as a man. I sincerely hope Mr. Terrell is not trying to screw myself or anyone here, and I hope this works out well for all of us. Once again if anyone has a good way to contact Mark please pass this information along to me so that I can try and resolve this issue. Sorry for the rant. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the links Karda, will definitely do that. I would like to post a warning on the green forum but I don't have access yet. I have had a few other people also email me with the same complaints, so the more the word spreads the better.

I agree completely Aufidius, I am tempted to post the emails so people can see how much the communication changed once he got the final payment. You can only get by on excuses for so long before it's dishonesty, especially after requesting the final payment in June.

When he said that your knives were done did he include or send you pictures? Always ask for pictures of the finished knife that you ordered, that way you can make sure it is right and that it is actually done. If a maker says that he does not have time to take pictures then tell him your will send the balance that is due when you see pictures.

His forum at the other site is gone and there is a long list of detractors there, too......doesn't look promising.

Folks you need to contact your banks and try to get your money back thwt way. Holding your breathe for someone to come through at this point is time wasted that you can get your money back.

Shame it had to come to this... but I just filed claim with PayPal, I tried Mark's cell again this evening, rang twice and then voicemail.

Mark if you're reading this... you still have a chance to make this right, I doubt you're a bad guy, but all of us here have tried to be understanding as possible and this is pushing it too far. Think of what this will do to your reputation as a maker.

I have no intentions of harming your reputation or attacking you personally, I just want what I paid for as do all of us.

I tried the bank and missed their "protection period", I have tried it twice actually. Does anybody have an understanding if there is anyway to file a small claim? I find it hard to believe someone could walk away with that much money.

Good advice on asking for pictures on completion. It was my first custom and I guess I went into it a little naive since everyone I have dealt with here was beyond nice and honest.
