Mass drop knives

Got one waiting in my mailbox... I thought this one looked like the best one so far other than the clip. I'll be finding out in about an hour.

Just got mine and I think they nailed it. I took delivery of the other two and they really didn't do anything for me, but this one is a keeper.

The action is snappy and smooth, with a small push button like the 0460. Fit and finish are great, and the whole knife just feels like a complete thought... Other than the shiny and oddly square clip. It's classy on some level, and I appreciate what they were trying to do, but the clip just looks out of place IMO. Clipped to the pocket it looks like a pen clip... Laying on the table it looks like an after thought. I have some ideas, but it will probably just come off.

The package as a whole is small and light with nice touches like the radiused spine and flipper tab, and the proud liners add to the look and feel in hand. It's simplicity could be its downfall, but IMO this one is a home run.

Thanks for the pictures... can't wait to get mine in hand. The massdrop/Ferrrum Forge knives in my opinion are a ton of knife for buck. Imagine if Benchmade could put something like this together! Too bad it would be twice as much and the blade would rub. The clip definitly feels like an afterthought... mine will either come off or I'll make a custom one for it.

I'm still waiting for the Gent, and will be for some time. However I am really looking forward to this one. I received notice of label creation a few days ago, but it just left the warehouse and received original departure scan today. So estimated delivery is a week from tomorrow. I've never had anything from Massdrop/SmartPost be received in under 8 days. And usually 9-10. -B

Turns out 1am in my kitchen is not the best photo conditions so I will post something tomorrow with pics. My thoughts are that it's a very nice knife and especially nice for the price. I like the falcon and the crux with an aftermarket clip has been in the carry rotation but this feels a bit more like a finished product. Action is nice, everything (lockbar, flipper tab etc.) is a bit gentler on the hand. The clip is nicely functional and I like that it looks like a pen in your pocket.

One thing to note, it definitely feels like a light use knife. I know the name implies it and the size would tell you that but it is also how it just feels. This is good for me because it's nice to have something smaller. Having all three now, I would probably skip the falcon if I had to do it again. Not because there is anything wrong with it. I just don't have a ton of use for it.

The Gent is another winner.

It's small and light but big enough for a four-finger grip for my size medium hands. The blade is lightly chamfered on top and thin on the bottom for slicing. QC is good to excellent -- MD seems to be getting better at examining these things before shipping them out. The MD logo has been downsized, thankfully.

The design is open-pillar with a single stand-off and should make for easy cleaning. The G-10 scales are classy but not grippy. There is no jimping.

The clip is small, thin and makes the folder look like a toy. I can see removing or replacing it. Puzzling how that got approved.

I own the Falcon, Crux and Gent. (Minus one Falcon stolen by a formerly trusted part-time employee.)

The Crux is plain-looking and larger than I would carry. As much as I like my Gent, the Falcon remains my favorite of these three. Both for its size and its ability to be opened manually via hole-opener.

I also ordered the new Falcon Wing Edition, announced today, and look forward to the updated 3D-machined Titanium clip and the new scale finishes. The handles on the original Falcon show marks way too easily.

All three of these Ferrum Forge designs are well-priced and high-quality.

What color you go for? I'm in for the Bronze.

Agreed about the Gent.

Once my Gent comes in I'll have 3 of those 4 knives to rotate for office carry. My chaparral was getting lonley so I just picked up a Valet.

Very nice. I rarely carry the Valet, but it's a great design. A Bugout with CF scales and the Pakkawood Delica have been my office rotation since September.

My current colors. I really should stop this. :).

They both look great! What was your solution & voltage for the bronze Falcon? As I recall, you also did a scotch-brite or polish on that one along the way, right?

I really need to start playing with mine.

Here is the actual shot of the Falcon right out of the soup. Looks like just over 12 volts. My solution is a bit of a mystery, as I just did a pour-n-pray method. Probably around 3-4 tbs each of Borax, Baking Soda, and some liquid laundry detergent.

This one started out as fresh factory texture, then a pretty extensive new Scotchbrite pad scrub down. Then a few seconds in fresh Whink, that etched back in some of the texture. Then another rubdown with an older Scotchbrite under running water. In the end, it's not glossy smooth, but more matte with a small amount of texture.
