Massdrop/Laconico Keen

To those who haven’t taken theirs apart yet, mine were really gritty inside.

How are they now? I've had no reason to take mine down yet. Super smooth. Only a matter of time before it meets Mr. Wicked Edge, though... :D

I know it has a free spinning pivot but how was the locktight situation? I see a tiny bit of Blue on the hardware

Mine were smooth but inconsistent. They are both butter smooth now. I know what you mean about wanting to put an edge on these! They slice sweet now, imagine what they’ll be like with a proper edge!

i cant decide between this one in this thread, or the Buc, or the Terzuola from massdrop, but I want one of the three!!
My guess is you all say get the keen. hah

I actually think the Buc is as good as the Keen, it's just more stylized and not as slick to go in and out of pocket. It's lighter and has a beautiful action, and the blade is great too.

I really like the simple clean lines of the Keen. It is really all that a folder should be to me. Plain, simple cutting tool.

Agreed. It’s everything it needs to be, without unnecessary frills.

If this knife had milled out internals, CF inlays, a compound grind with hollow ground working edge + flat ground tip, a swedge, milled finger grooves, a hole in the blade for extra deployment options, and a hand rubbed finish, with no change in the level of execution, we’d be looking at a $400+ knife that lost some people along the way by catering to specialized tastes, hand sizes or shapes, etc. Instead, we get a handle that fits every hand, one reliable deployment method (two if you count two hand pinch), a clean user blade, a good user finish, etc. It’s a knife designed to work.

i feel like I would only take the keen when wearing slacks or the like, its a classy looking knife.
The buc looks like what I would want to pull out when someone asks to borrow a knife and I want to see the look on their face when I hand then that pocket knife. hah.

I can count the times i wear slacks per year on one hand.....
I do like the keen with the holes though.

That's what I meant by effete. It's not a putdown. It's a comment on its appearance compared to bigger and larger folders. As in an Audi TT is effete by comparison to a Porsche 911. Both are capable in just about every measure.

I have had all three the Keen is the best IMHO the Buc is a close second and sent the Terzuola back as they messed with the hardware on the finished product.
