Massdrop/Laconico Keen

I'm about to pull the trigger on one but I'm having a hard time picking one out. I'm fond of the gold stone wash with the speed holes. Decisions

Good luck! I'm trying to hold back from getting an additional one in purple, lol.
Got to be honest, Digging the purple with smooth scales but since I plan on using it I figured the stone wash bronze with the speed holes would hide hide the inevitable snail trails. What do you think? Edit: Changed my mind Again, Bronze with solid scales:confused:

The stonewashed version should be much less "markable" than the blasted raw one.

Yeah there’s only a couple things I wish were different on this one. One would be for the plain finish to be a stonewash over the bead blast (like the Hinderer working finish).

I’m sitting here, one click away from buying a second in gray. I’ve never purchased two of the same model before. Close with the Gemini and Ursa Minor, but this knife...

I’m actually finding that I think it’s the Laconico I’ve wanted to have come along. The more time I spend with it, the less I feel like I need anything else.

Well a Bronze Laconico with plain scales should be on it's way, That's if anyone in shipping shows up to work tomorrow. I've heard nothing but praise about this knife from you guys and Nick Shabazz so pulling the trigger was easy. Pics on the way soon:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm already thinking of ordering the Purple one.

That looks Sexy! I'm glad you didn't post that pic 15 minutes ago or I would still be trolling the Mass Drop site Lol

Well after having some time to spend with my bronze with portals it is impressing me even more, this thing is a SOLID knife, the fit and finish are great, heck of a slicer but the thing that's got me is the detent on mine.

I prefer a snappy detent and mine was VERY snappy at first but has broken in nicely now and the only way to describe it is it's like "breaking glass," the second you overcome
the detent hole the blade FLIES out, there is absolutely NO WAY the blade won't fully open once you overcome the detent.

I have to say it's got THE best action (for my preferences) out of any of the knives I own, took it apart, cleaned and lubed it and it's smooth as glass with drop shut action with a very slight shake, perfect IMO.

Couple of nitpiks though are they could have went with standoff's as opposed to the backspacer and it would have evened out the weight distribution a little more (a little butt heavy IMO) and some jimping on the flipper tab would have been nice but other than that the knife is outstanding! Did I mention I loves me some FFG!

I was toying with the idea of milling out the back spacer to shave some grams off and make it MINE but I have to have it in hand first. I was also thinking about having a friend put some jumping on the flipper tab.

Second Keen ordered. Gray + groove. Almost went with portals or plain, but I had to take a breath and admit to myself that I like the groove too damn much to go a different direction.

I’ve figured out that I won’t be getting an EZE, EZC, or Yorkie. I might even be done buying until Blade West next year. For real. I like this knife that much. I’m looking at other knives because I like looking at them, but I don’t want them. Even knives like the Arius, Eraser, or Shiros are currently not enticing to me. Last time I felt like this, I didn’t buy for 2-3 years.

I have had this drop opened many times... definitely picking one up after all the good reviews on here and YouTube.
Narrowed down to bronze, now groove (saves a little weight ) or solid scales ?
Ugh decisions

I’m in the same dilemma. I can’t decide which to get.

I’m considering another knife purchase with it like the Buc. Or maybe 2 of these considering how much people like it?

If the Yorkie is $170 or less I'll still try one. I’m really developing a thing for those smaller knives.

I’ve noticed that with the McBee and Busker riding shotgun and tail gunner in your IG posts of the Arius! Unfortunately for me, three finger grips make me crazy. A Gemini, Ursa Minor, or 0609 are the smallest I’ll go for real cutting. Those give me a comfortable four finger grip with barely any handle left. My Wenger Esquire or Victorinox Classic get a pass for size because they get used for tape busting and the like.

Did you order that purple Keen? #peerpressure

Exactly! Lol

The buc looks pretty nice too. I was deciding between the crux and keen. So now getting keen first and I'll probably own those other two later lol

I'm not gonna lie, it's everything I'd hoped and maybe a bit more. Fit and finish perfectly dialed, super thin grind, screams Laconico design. Love the spear point blade with the full flat grind. Just so, so versatile. It's one of those knives that makes me think "Maybe I could just carry one pocket knife forever..."

Agreed! First thing I thought was damn this thing sounds and feels THIN behind the edge.

Mine got a little gritty after gratuitous flipping, so I took it apart and cleaned it... Very well made knife IMO and confidence inspiring construction, maybe a little overbuilt in a good way. The pivot barrel came in from the show side, which is the opposite of most knives I've disassembled. I reassembled it from the other side (screw on the presentation side) with no issue. A couple drops of Nano Oil and it just keeps getting better.

I'm really hoping for more variations of this knife, perhaps with a synthetic backspacer. I'm not sure how well a standoff conversion would go considering the backspacer protects the tip from biting you (similar situation on the Spyderco Techno standoff conversion). I think this knife would be prime for both a longer and shorter version using the same width/height.

Photos of your takedown would be great. I thought the washers were brass but someone here posted they read they are caged bearings.

A 95mm drop point or spear point blade on that pattern folder would be very nice. Full flat grind, of course.

OTOH, it's a perfect urban EDC as is.
