Massdrop Terzuola

No, the logo is there, It's just different than what was advertised.

See pictures below. They removed his name and enlarged his logo. People (including me) are pissed the name is removed. And they tell everyone in the drop AFTER they shipped the knives with no communication about this decision AT ALL. Oh and some are also mad the hardware is also a different color... cherry on top.

WHAT WE'RE GETTING:

The hardware is actually a bigger deal to me. I bought this knife partly because I loved the look of the polished hardware against the black. Dirty tumbled bronze is not what I ordered.

Just bad handling all around my MD. I suspect as others have mentioned, these "changes" were known long ago and they just decided to drop (pun intended) on us after shipping. I'm guessing there will be a lot of returns on this drop. Myself, I'll wait and see how it looks.

I am actually more worried about the hardware too. Logo I am indifferent on, but dirty bronze is a not what we ordered.

I usually defend Massdrop against some of the less logical attacks, but removing the "Terzuola" name without his permission is egregious. Appearance-wise, I think I actually prefer the logo-only look with the Mayan crest, but that's besides the point if Bob wasn't aware. I'm fairly certain this isn't due to creating a "cleaner look". Somehow the proof was submitted wrong on Massdrop's side, or WE left it off and scaled the logo wrong. Either way, it would be cost prohibitive to ship the knives back overseas to fix them. There may now be tariffs in effect on either side that could complicate export/import.

Maybe worse is the change in hardware. The new "blasted" look vs. the original satin finish changes the look of the knife a lot.

Mine is scheduled to be here on Saturday but I probably won't see it until late next week. I'll be following this thread to see what people get when they open their boxes.

Man just read the verbiage on their site relating to this.. I didn't order one of these and I'm pissed on all of those who ordered the knive' s behalf. Was going to grab a buc to have as a "don't care if I lose this" knifebut now I won't be.

There are clearer pics in the comments of the product page posted by someone that actually got the knife. I will have to agree that the hardware is the bigger problem. Changes the entire aesthetic. It’s still likeable but definitely not what people ordered

I may get blasted for this, but I'll share my opinion: People are making a mountain out of a molehill with this one.

When you order pre-production from a company that is subcontracting a 3rd party in another continent to make an item, some minor variations from the prototype aren't unheard of. To me, a slight logo change and stonewashed vs satin hardware finishes are trivial changes. I wouldn't be upset if I had joined the drop and then these changes were made.

Then again, I've always been more of a function over form kind of guy. As long as the blade shape, blade thickness, blade grind, handle shape, and quality of construction are all what I was promised, I'd be content. The finish of the screws is something I'm pretty indifferent about. Within reason, of course. If the plain satin finished hardware was replaced by toxic green anodized hardware with a big biohazard symbol etched onto the pivot screw, I'd be peeved.

That being said, you'd think the folks at Massdrop would be able to foresee this kind of thing and be a bit better at managing it. I'm not ready to throw them under the bus, but they could be more up-front about the fact that minor variations from the prototype are possible when they post these big pre-orders.

I think this is mostly a communication issue. Had it been brought to light before shipping and given people an option to opt out then it would be way less of a problem.

The bright bronze hardware was the selling point to me so I just feel like the dirty bronze now makes it look kinda meh.

Agreed. Not sure I would have bought it as is. That and this was just handled poorly by MD. I still think they knew of all the issues/changes before hand just decided to drop in on us after shipping.

I'm going to give the knife a shot and if it's a quality piece, I'll likely keep it. But, still disappointed in the changes.

That s just the price to pay for buying from massdrop. They don't give a damn. It's not the first time this has happened and won't be the last time.
Plus they have seriously bad customer service and bad communication skills.
But... that is just what you get when pushing the price.
For me I decided long ago that I will be way more careful with MD.
Sorry for those who got the stick this time.

I agree with you in terms of the mountain/molehill thing. There are folks raging on the drop comments about hiring attorneys and filing class action suits! I get a kick out of the MD discussion threads because somehow it brings out the worst elements of internet anonymity :p.

On the other hand I'm getting really sick of Massdrop stepping all over their own toes. I really like the concept of crowd funding new designs this way but MD simply isn't communicating well. We get BS excuses because they can't disclose all the foibles of a design, sell, manufacture, distribute process. I'm not demanding a right to know the details, just don't insult my intelligence by claiming it was a design choice.

Some people take logos way too seriously in my opinion. I don't much care what's there or isn't there as long as it's not botched and unclear. The logo rage is almost funny. The hardware finish is little bigger problem. I chose a handle color given the expectation of bright bronze hardware. If I'd known how the finish was really going to look, I'd have selected a different color.

Oh well, I'm still eager to get my knife. I may try to polish the hardware a little bit myself.

Oh, one more thing. The logo on the knife (as delivered) matches the souvenir Terzuola patch that was shipped with the knife.

The class action suit nonsense would be hilarious if they weren't so serious.

It does indeed seem that Massdrop can improve their communication.

I agree that the logo rage is almost funny. They didn't remove the designer's logo. It was just resized and simplified.

No big deal. It seems like previous animosity with Massdrop may be making the situation worse than it should be. ESEE changed the logos on their camp-lore line a while back and I don't remember any crowds with pitchforks emerging for that one.

I'm glad you got one! I'm anxious to see what people think of them. They are very attractive knives and I wouldn't mind to have one myself. I personally prefer the duller finish on the hardware, but to each his own. I would have been happy either way, as I think both options look just fine.

Since these are so disappointing I’ll be expecting a big price drop when I see them on the exchange! Haha.

That said, massdrop needs to get their head out their ass and communicate properly and honestly. You didn’t design the knife and you didn’t build the knife, but you sure remembered to put your awful font all over the thing. Get your S together.

Bingo. I almost want one. But I can wait for something better. Or one of these at a discount.

I guess the owner of the company just posted that he accidentally sent the wrong image file for the Terzuola logo to the factory.
