Massdrop Terzuola

Bingo. I almost want one. But I can wait for something better. Or one of these at a discount.
I think the next drop is already guaranteed at +$10? Only one color sold out so I think the entire drop was less than 900 knives. I can picture a weird, bizarro future where the first run Terzuolas are worth more because of the defective logo and acid washed hardware :D.

I was thinking this was the case.... I bet WE accidentally printed a previous design of the knife or something and it was noticed during the QC. Still shaking my head about this. I was excited they were shipping early and was convinced we weren't going to have another Perpetua on our hands but low and behold....

It was MassDrop’s fault. They sent the wrong image to We. Then they concocted the story to cover the mistake. They finally came clean this afternoon.

I am waiting to receive my black one before making a decision on sending it back. They stated that they are accepting returns. However, I asked if they will pay return shipping. I have not received a response.

They have given me a $20 credit in my account for this B.S., but I will never participate in any more drops. I have bought quite a few over the three years that I have been on MassDrop.

I’m not butthurt, I posted my two cents and called it. The idea behind Massdrop is super cool. The execution, for the stuff I’m into, is just a mess. A watch fail and a couple knife fails.
If you bought three things in a row off the exchange from the same person, and they were bunk, would you go back?
Same for me. A 150 knife is no big, I’ll keep it but man I’m just done from a customer experience point of view.

Jonas the massdrop guy is getting a lot of flack, and he is responding by being a jerk over there.
He admitted that sending out final update saying they decided to change the logo was just to cover for his mistake of sending the wrong file to WE Knives, and he is trying to say that they never lied about it.
I will make my decision whether I want to keep the knife or not once I get it in hand tomorrow, but I am never ordering from massdrop again..

Given all the negative experiences here regarding the bait and switch over the logo and the hardware and the bigger issue of the lack of transparency over the changes in question, as well as to a lesser extent some of the people who had glaring issues with their Perpetuas, I'm curious as to how their upcoming Eric Orchs collaboration is going to turn out with Reate...

I'm thankful that to date, I haven't done a whole lot of business with the company. So far, I've signed up for the Delica and Endura SG2 drops and I've purchased a power cord and a limited edition SAK in the meantime to experience/test out the entire ordering/delivery process. In both cases tracking information was non-existent after both items were shown shown as shipped until they were marked as delivered to my Canadian address - except I didn't end up receiving either item until a several weeks after it was supposed to have arrived.

On top of that, on the first occasion (for the power cord), it had been such a long time since the original delivery date that I asked for a refund (which was promptly and politely given), and then a few days/a week later it showed up in the mail and I proceeded to spend another week or two playing email tag with two different CS reps to try and pay them what they were owed!

My customer service experience with Massdrop's staff has always been polite, but it felt like I was the one who was having to go to lengths to get an answer or a resolution (again, in the first instance, it was soley to their benefit!). As well, the delivery to my Canadian address was beyond slow both times with no rough sense of a delivery date either. So combining my personal experiences with what I've read so far in this thread here, I'm almost certain the SG2 drops with Spyderco will be my last with Massdrop.

As for those drops with Spyderco, I'm confident that given Spyderco's industry experience with sprints/LE's and their manufacturing capabilities, the product itself will be worth the long wait, even if the entire process is more or less the same as my previous two experiences with the company, which is to say "ok" at best.

Unfortunately they shipped my knife to my old address (11 hours away by car), even though I updated my address before receiving a shipping notification. We will see if I end up getting my knife or not. The remedy offered by customer service, was to coordinate with the residents of my old address... #brilliant .

austonh, unless you're the same guy on MD, this is not an uncommon situation.

Shipping for me too is crazy slow, always. This transaction for example - shipping notification 9/21. Expected receive date 10/3 :poop:

I guess we all have different priorities and value points. Personally ... I like the cleaner dragon logo. For me the hardware is a non issue, and I would never expect a manufacturer to not include their own name on their product. This was my first drop with them, and I really don't have any complaints...the knife is sharp and the action is smooth.

While the communication definitely needed to be better...Massdrop builds for all products are constantly evolving. These are products that are sold before they are completed, you should expect that things could change (most of their product pages have these disclaimers). We got a Terzoula design built by a great OEM for a very reasonable price...don't like it? Return it. Me, I'll enjoy mine:-)

The level of conspiracy theory in some of the responses about why the logo and hardware changed is pretty funny ... but I highly doubt there was any malicious intent. The communication was poor...very poor...They are a company that is rapidly growing and expanding their product portfolios....they will stumble...that how things work in manufacturing.

I think your expectation for the Spyderco offerings is probably correct. However, not even Spyderco is immune from hickups. There was quite a negative uproar about the BHQ Lum exclusive not too long ago.

I’m not being apologetic for MD (at all), but there is a place for perspective too.

ETA: This is in no way meant to malign Spyderco (they’re probably my overall facorite manufacturer). Just an observation of perspective.

Regarding the HAP40/Jade G10 Lum Tanto run, I remember that there were some F&F issues with some of the individual pieces; more than few iirc, so yes, no one's immune to putting out some lemons or having issues across an entire run.

However, lately and largely, I'd say that generally speaking Spyderco does an excellent job with manufacturing their products. In my personal experience (which is limited almost solely to several sprint runs and dealer exclusives fwiw), I haven't really had any complaints about the F&F on one of their brand new knives until one of my most recent purchases, a Caly Jr. Super Blue Sprint, that had a grind that wasn't quite up to what I have come to expect from Spyderco.

And just to reiterate, when reaching out to Massdrop to handle any issues I've had, the conversation has always been polite, although usually quite prolonged; similar to the wait for anything I've bought from them so far to arrive at my Canadian address (which makes the shipping/delivery times for some of the supporting dealers here that much better in perspective!).

Mine will be delivered tomorrow... Kinda torn now, I based my choice of scales on the polished bronze hardware. Gonna stay positive though.

V111 Checking in.

Not a bad knife at all. This is the green version. Fit and finish are near perfect (which I have come to expect from WE knives). Bummed about the logo but its not the end of the world. I think this dirty bronze hardware looks alright with the green. I'll be keeping mine.

Just got mine in and I’m glad I went with a black one.

It’s a shame about the logo but overall I’m please. I still think this is the best representation of a Terzuola tactical folder to date by a production company.

For those that have owned or handled Terzoulas, they feel like beefed up gentleman’s Knives. Even the plain ones are refined. WE kind of hit that note with this release and I’m happy. I think this maybe a keeper and that would be rare for me with folders.

The action is smooth but not loose, the lock up has no stick and it’s perfect. The blade is nicely ground with even bevels and an even plunge line. The flipper tab has just the right amount of jimping.

Very nice.

I don't think that finished product is necessarily "bad" or poorly made based on the few photos of the production knives I've seen; however, I don't think that really addresses the problem of the way the company handled the logo debacle or the vastly different hardware from what was pictured/indicated before hand vs what people are getting shipped out to them. Just my $0.02 as an outsider on this one.

You're correct. I was pretty pissed about the logo. Was indifferent about the hardware. In hand, I like the knife overall and will be keeping it.

BUT.

This will most likely be my last knife from massdrop.

I agree with you, I understand those that are upset and I think massdrop should maybe offer a percent back for those that are not happy but don’t want to return the knife. My perspective is that I am happy with the overall product.

I'm eager to see the tan version I ordered in person - I'm not torn up about the logo change or the hardware finish, really, but I must admit the colors in massdrop's original photos look pretty different than the ones I'm seeing here. Maybe it's just the look of the darker hardware throwing things off, but especially wrt the tan version the customer photos seem to show a much darker/more saturated hue. More of a "baby poop" shade than the light "desert sand" tan I was expecting; not exactly my style though I'm sure some will prefer it. I suspect they didn't have the tan prototype to photograph and just photoshopped the green one. I'll hold my judgement until mine arrives but I have a feeling I may be looking to swap with someone for a black one...

The comment section over at massdrop is positively seething with apoplectic rage and accusations. Over 800 comments long already. This is what happens when you pander to enthusiasts, take their money well in advance of delivery, and then try to brush off last-minute changes. As someone who does product development for my own business, I know that there are a million wrinkles - large and small - to iron out between design and execution... not to mention the nasty surprises that always seem to crop up during final QC checks. This is why most sane people don't start selling at the prototype stage. Massdrop's whole business model seems like a recipe for frustrated expectations.
