Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

Great idea on the annex clips:thumbup: I was thinking about a way to make my compression straps removable once threaded through the Molle, might give that a try.

well it wasn't too bad :) I used a curved upholstery needle which really helped go through the webbing, I also used Spectra line which is very slick and went through pretty easy (it's also damn strong stuff too!)

I doubled up the line and tied a double nut and then went to stitching, every once in awhile I'd leave a loop on the one side, pull the needle/thread through the loop forming a half hitch. When done I'd tie it off and then used a lighter to melt the line down, gave it a squeeze w/ my fingers- it acts much like paracord in the way it melts down. Won't win any sewing awards but appears to stout enough.

here's a pic of the annex clips I'm using on the empty side- shows clips open and slid on the pals webbing (you can also see a wood blade I have slid in the pals webbing on the rear of the holder and a 25' yank of 2 mm Spectra on the same side as the annex clips)

Nice

Nice indeed. Well, I got my strap materials, now I just need to find time to get sewing supplies and try my hand at sewing.

thanks gents

I've added a second cocoon

w/ two cocoons on one side, the small strobe pouch, the compression straps on the side and the bungee compression on the rear, I'm able to carry my typical load out for a long day in the woods :) for "winter" I'll still be in a pack (larger insulating layer, mittens, balaclava, candles, hand warmers, larger bivy, insulating pad, folding saw, hatchet, etc) but for "summer" this should be the ticket for a light & fast setup :)

as mentioned, w/ a 32 oz Nalgene and pot- there is still a little room (~1.5-2") in the 10x4

here's what I came up w/ to take up the small void that was available

it's the "tactical" :) can case ~ 3.5" x 1.75"

here's how I stacked things up

Where can I get a ti stove like that???
Thanks
Danny

found it at basegear.com
this is just a great thread. putting my kit together and will take pics soon.

will the guyot bottles fit in the falcon pigmy??

My standard Guyot fits in the mesh bottle pockets of my Pygmy, if that's what you meant. The cap rides a little above the cinch line due to the conical bottom of the pockets, but it's fine because you can cinch the pocket relatively tight right between the cap and bottle.

Im trying to put my kit together,
I bought a SnowPeak MiniSolo titanium set.
It was the store display (last one) and I got it a little cheaper.
I have the Guyot Nalgene Steel bottle.

Inside the snowpeak pot the handles are riveted on,and
the rivets seem to scratch the bottle pretty good.
Is it just my bottle/pot combo or are they all like this?
Kind of a tight fit. Im just afraid of the waterbottle rubbing on the
rivets and damaging either the pot of the bottle.

Thanks for any info

on my SP 700 combined w/ a 30 oz (plastic) Nalgene- no rubbing, there is actually a fair amount of room- enough so I could nest my windscreen/stove in the 700- along w/ the bottle

a little rubbing I wouldn't think would hurt too much, if it's really tight it might

Thanks mtwarden.
I just realized I have the aluminum Mini Solo kit.
I thought I was bought the titanium version.
The aluminum pot has a nonstick coating, making it thicker I guess.
Time for a return.

^ ah that could definitely explain it

SnowPeak doesn't do a good job differentiating their aluminum from titanium line- they use the same names- I bought a 1100 that I thought was titanium, until to discover it was aluminum (thought I was getting a steal :))

After having some size issues with the GSI metal cups - they would fit my opaque 32 oz Nalgenes, but not my polycarbs, I switched to the MSR cups. They seem to have a more consistent size, fit all my Nalgenes, and have a more comfortable handle.

Cool thread....an ideal set-up for me for day hikes.
Few issues:
1. Can anyone tell me what length TacTies are used to attach a cocoon pouch to a 4"X10" bottle holder? (3" or 5")
2. Did anyone found other alternatives for a shoulder strap (I understand the maxpedition strap is too short for cross chest carry..approx 52" and the SpecOps(?) one is about 58" or so). Anything else out there?

1. 3"
2. I have a 44" chest, size large and the Maxped strap still has several inches in reserve- obviously this will vary w/ individuals, but for the majority of folks chest carry should be a problem

you could easily make your own shoulder strap- all you would need is the appropriate width/length nylon strapping, a few plastic clips and a couple of adjusting sliders- these are available in almost every color (including khaki and foliage)

Thanks mtwarden. I just ordered four 3"TacTies.
I agree I should be able to make my own shoulder strap - I would also enjoy it better since would be designed to my specifications. My problem: can't find a place that carries what I need.
Do you know of any on-line store that has "appropriate (1.5"-2") width/length nylon strapping, a few plastic clips and a couple of adjusting sliders" that would help one make it's own sholder strap? I was checking with some local sporting goods stores in my area (SoCal), but nothing of real use to me yet....
