Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

Try searching online though, I'm sure they are available, or something similar

If I find the time, I can try to review the pros and cons as I have a Camelbak Mule and use that often for hiking. Having this experience was fun and the look of this setup is cool. I wish I could find a straw to put into the Nalgene so I would not have to unzip, take it out and then drink.

I just don't zip mine up.

Years ago I had Roger at Custom Tactical Creations make me one of these Modular Water Bottle Pouches. I'm just now getting around to turning it into a survival kit.
As you can see, it's a similar concept to the Maxpedition pouch. Roger's gear is all made with double layer 1000D Cordura and I can't recommend him highly enough.
I've got the Nalgene bottle and a stainless cup for it and some pouches I'll be adding to the outside. I'm also going to add some D rings to the sides of the pouch and fashion a carry strap for it.
After I cobble it all together I'll post some more pics.

Thanks! I just bought a Maxpedition Barnacle pouch for the outside. Should be the perfect size for my signal mirror, space blanket, compass, maybe an Esbit stove. Etc.

I made a little progress with my water bottle pouch kit today.

I fashioned a carry strap for it out of webbing & Fastex buckles. I wanted a way to attach a carry strap without having to sew D rings onto it or use clips or anything so I just ran the 1" webbing down the sides through the MOLLE loops. That way the strap is one continous piece and it cradles the pouch without putting any stress on the nylon.

I also got a Maxpedition 'Barnacle' pouch to put on the outside of it. It's sized just right for a survival tin or a GPS, camera or an Esbit stove, signal mirror or a small first aid kit.
I like it so much I'm buying another one to put on it.

The Barnacle pouch had a stiff divider in it which I cut out to make more room. Now it expands open much further.

On the back of the bottle pouch I attached one of Custom Tactical's compass pouches. In there I intend to put flat items like maybe a space blanket and signal mirror.

Will post more pics when it's finished.

Here's my pouch with the Maxpedition Barnacles attached-

Here's what I have in there so far-

-Nalgene water bottle
-Stainless steel cup
-Survival bandana
-Military issue space blanket
-Signal mirror
-Large Fire Steel with whistle on the lanyard
-Spark Light fire starter
-Cotton tinder
-County Comm mini pry bar
-20 feet of parachute cord
-Small roll of Duct Tape
-Spool of stainless steel snare wire
-Pocket Pal knife sharpener
-Folding Titanium spork

I still need to add some water purification tablets, a compass and some other small stuff but so far it's pretty good.

Just got my Bottle Holder kit set up.

I wanted to keep it very minimalist and lightweight.

Bandana attached to the back.

Bottle and cup in the main compartment, of course. Two person heatsheet, ceramic sharpener, whistle, light, tinder straws, and first aid pouch (gauze, band-aids, butterfly sutures, water purification tabs, ibuprofen, benadryl) in the front pocket. Paracord around the shoulder strap.

I'm glad this thread keeps coming back up. I think I have been wanting to get one of these bottle holders to make a kit from a lot longer than you wanted that Janus pouch Jake. The problem is that I get busy and forget I want one :o I think I'll look at sources again while I am thinking about it now :)

Jake, did you use the 10x5 or the 12x5 for your kit?

Just spent 2 hours going through this thread. What a bunch of awesome kits. Went over to Two Wolves and loaded my cart up to find that they are out of the damn 32oz. stainless nalgene bottle. Also, I could not find a strap padded or otherwise. Any suggestions?
