Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

^ nice kit :) yeah that'll fit no problem- diameter is 4", the 700 which fits (but tightly) is 4.2 "

Ok here are the pics of my loadout. I changed my PSK pouch to a maxpedition 4x6. I was gonna get the 3x5, but I went against my judgement and followed the "go bigger then you think you need" advise that has never let me down with maxpedition gear.

Maxpedition 10x4 in Khaki. Added shock cord to front, Leather Baldric strap made by me, Maxped 4x6 PSK pouch on strap.

Inside top of pouch is a pouch containing a 5x6 silnylon groundsheet/bush chair/tarp. Then Guyot/GSI cup, and bail. Then skeeter headnet.

Front of pouch contains Headlamp and Vic Farmer.

Thats it for the 10x4. I dont like it crammed full so I have room to put in some other stuff I might need for the outing (food,tackle,etc..) I wanted to keep it as simple as possible so I dont essentially end up with a bunch of pouches hooked together forming a heavy small bag. My 10x4 setup with a strap is first and formost a way to grab a water bottle for quick day hikes or to hike away from camp when I might not wanna pack the main pack. I have my Kodiak for a smaller pack, so I dont need another. I like the PSK on the strap because I dont want it mounted to the bottle. It for the most part when not on the 10x4 is in my pack, or on the belt. The Maxpedition
4x6 is perfect(I will be getting another to replace my FAK pouch). It is a bit bigger then my other pouch, but it sits flater so actually it works better. Plus I have room to spare in the pouch for any small items I might want to toss in. My PSK is not your typical "Break glass in case of emergancy" kits you see. It is a PSK/Repair kit that gets used quite a bit and restocked as needed. This works better for me then carrying multiple kits, and I get alot of practice with my PSK items.

What a great feature with the zipper pull retainer. A carabiener fits nicely under the snap to clip it to whatever. (I like multiple carry options, especially for PSK)

minimalgear041.jpg

Ok, when I made this Baldric, I had in mind I wanted to be able to mount a pouch to it. So I made it adjustable with chicago screws on one end, and also made it spaced appropriate to mount Molle gear to so it is fixed and not sliding all over. Couldnt work any better. Fits like it was made to do this. ;) I am LOVING the leather/Nylon combo my rig has. I used tac ties to mount it.

Here you can see how the pouch is mounted.

FAK items. I carry an individual FAK in my pack that is better stocked, as well as a large group kit in my car. These were just a few things JIC.

Front zipper compartment holds matchcase with compass, Whistle, and PJ ball tinder.

So thats my kit, and loadout for my minimal overnight(-clothes on my back of course!). Hope ya dig it, and I will be heading out as soon as spring Turkey is finished up.

Cool J Williams! Thanks for showing! Slowly my pieces are coming together, I'm about 2/3 of the way there. Waiting for the 10x4 and cocoon, but have the cup, bottle, shock cord, over the shoulder strap and pad, and much of the contents ready to go.

Thanks for posting that J, that 4 X 6 pouch is exactly what I want for my first aid kit

I'm just picked a 10x4 and am working on an mtb based kit. I sometime carry up to 120 oz of water on my back for long rides, plus a bottle on the bike. I am going to try and get 3 bottles on the bike and take 60 oz of my back or not wear a camelbak for shorter rides. I'm going to try and mount both on my bars and also behind the seat attached to the seat post. Has any body tried this?

I've seen pics of the bottle holders mounted to a rear rack, that's the only place I've seen- let us know how (and if) it works :)

How are you guys dealing with extra layers like a jacket or fleece or the like? Just hanging it over the holder?

my windshirt I've got shock corded to the attached pocket, on my overnighter I tied my sweater around my waist (rolled up)

you can see both if you look carefully in the pic above :)

there may be a better system out there, but it worked fine for me

thin layers like a rain jacket, windshirt etc I think you can lash on pretty easy- heavier layer will be more challenging

I have the TAD Gear version of the bottle pouch
I used it all fall/winter on the rack on my bike.
Just bungee corded to the rack.

DSC04792.jpg

What I prefer about the Maxped version is the full zipper on the top
.
The TAD version uses a buckle to keep it closed.
Havent had any issues with stuff falling out,but would be better protected with
full zipper closure.

I have 2 water bottles on the bike, plus the bottle in the pack.
I make hot chocolate and miso soup when riding in the colder months.
I use a soto stove with snowpeak titanium pot.

Still working out the contents of my "bike kit". Season changing and
the kit contents change too.
I will eventually make a thread with its contents.

ok I have been wanting to do this since I found this thread, and since i have officially finished all of my classes for college my free time has suddenly opened up...so here it goes.

My set up is your standard 10x4 bottle holder with an EDC pocket organizer on the right, 2 cocoon pouches on the left, and a 3x5 pouch on the front. The strap is currently an old guitar strap that works pretty well. I plan on replacing it once I have a chance to make one from 550 cord.

on my person I usually have a 4-5'' bush craft style fixed blade (soon to be one of Bruce Culberson's Bushcrafters :D), a Gerber Diesel, and a PSK attached to my belt. If I am planning on being out overnight or for a longer period of time I will add a normal sized backpack. I like to take my Maxpedition Condor II because i can just attach this bad boy and be on my way.

Please let me know if you guys have any recommendations, advice, etc...I am here to learn and always looking for new ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

^ the edc pouch fits pretty well there, w/ it's addition it could easily change the platform into more of a edc one (vs a day hiking/bushcraft one); I think someone showed a pic of a small .380 that fit in the main attached pouch

It seems like my bottle holder kit changes as often as the seasons.

Gen1
• Cocoon pouch
• Tube sheath
• M2 waistpack

This setup works great for quick grab and go hikes in the summer.

Gen1.jpg

Gen2
• (2) 4.5X6 padded pouches
• Tube sheath

This is great if need a little more room. I carried my belt pouch PSK in one 4.5x6 and used the other for storage. Mostly I would carry some food and a small titanium tri-wing esbit stove so I could make some hot chocolate for the kids and me out on the trail.

Gen3
• Cocoon pouch
• Tube sheath
• 4.5X6 padded pouch
• TT E&E horizontal pouch (replaced my belt pouch that I put in the other 4.5x6)
• Poncho shown attached by the bungie cord I added to the front of the holder.

This is a pretty hardcore setup and is a bit overkill but it allows me to carry my E&E pouch so I can practice with the contents of the PSK.

Something that not clearly shown in the pictures is the secondary strap that I added to the holder. It a stabilizer strap that clips onto one of the d-rings and connects to the main shoulder strap. This strap keep sthe holder from flopping around and also moves the padding on the shoulder strap away from my neck. I also am using an old strap from a montainsmith pack as my primary shoulder strap. It’s a ¾” strap but is really nicely padded. I never could get used to the wider straps that most people use. I’ll have to take a pic if anyone is interested.

The last comment is that I don’t always use the plastic d-rings for strap attachment point. With the different setups, I vary were I attach the strap. Sometimes I even add a d-ring to the molle webbing on a pouch. And other times I attach one strap end to the key ring clip.

PS - That tactical tailor E&E pouch is great!

I remember seeing the small .308 as well. I don't have it with me now, because I am still at school in NY, and the gun laws are a little crazy up here, but back at home in NC I have a small pistol in .32 Auto that I think will fit in there, so there are some options out there.

The 3-in-1 Ka-Bar is awesome. It is a little heavier than the Lexan utensil set I was using before, but it makes up for it in the fact that it is so compact. The knife that it comes with i no joke either. It is a lock-back style folder, and after it hit it with the strop a few times it is razor sharp. The little pouch is nice too. It has a belt loop on the back.

the belt pouch...it has two loops at the back one that is sized for a regular belt and one that is bigger, i am not sure, but it looks big enough to fit on a pistol belt....don't have one on hand to try it out at the moment.

I'd like to see a pic of that :) on my old Lunada it had a secondary strap that I thought was very helpful

I been thinking of getting this for a while now, but don't know if i should get the 12x5 or 10x4.

Which is better the 12x5 or 10x4 for the stainless bottle to fit inside of it?

What size are the stainless bottle with stainless cup i keep seeing in here?
