Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

i've been using the condor 10x4 bottle holder pouch on my 5.11 moab 10 for a few months now & love it as a bottle holder/cook kit, but have been wanting to set up a maxpedition 12x5 for the other side, just got the 12x5 this week & am impressed by the size & overall construction, i'll get into the details of my kit in a later post, but have to ask a question... what is the intended purpose of the webbing strap on the maxpediton pouch that is mounted over the molle webbing on the back of the pouch? that & the keyper clip just seem superfluous to me & get in the way when trying to mount the pouch on molle webbing with tacties or whatever... anybody know the purpose of this strap? thanks for any info!

Are you referring to the two straps with snaps that run vertically?

Edit: Nevermind, looks like a built in shoulder strap . Could also be used as a secondary retention strap, like a dummy cord.

thanks murphnuge, i'm not a big fan of this extra strap & keyper hook, but i guess they could come in handy depending on the situation... however, i really think it would have been nice if there was more molle webbing on the back of the pouch so it matched up with the webbing on the outside, while i understand maxpedition placing 5 rows on back for attachment because their tacties only span 5 rows, with a couple more rows of webbing at the bottom i can see a #7 speed clip working well to attach the pouch more securely to a pack...
well enough whining, i'm waiting on the additional pouches to add on the bottle pouch & finish out the kit, will post update when complete... i can say that the klean kanteen 64oz. fits nice in the maxpedition 12x5!

Bumping because I love this thread. When I bought mine the guy told me that long vertical strap is for when you remove layers, you can cinch it in there since you don't have a large pack to put it in, made sense to me.
I have upgraded to the Klean Kanteen 64oz as well, with a cap-cap. Still room on top with the cap, not sure what will go in the extra space up top yet.
I found a cool item at the grocery store, individual instant coffee pouches that have creamer and sugar built in, so I don't need to bring them along.

I just recently setup a 10x4 with a cocoon on one side and an m1 on the other side. I used 3" tac ties and it worked well. I just used a single tac tie on the cocoon and ran it bottom to top using the buckle to hold it against one of the webbing straps and the top i snapped in to the lock on the cocoon. I used two 3" tac ties on the m1. I could have used the 5" straps i think but it works great. That and the Maxped strap and shoulder pad and it's ready to go for some day hikes and edc use.

Patagonia Houdini on the front. 2 cocoons on the right, GP pouch on the left and a Can Case inside the lid of the bottle holder. Maxpedition 1.5" strap and shoulder pad.

Yes nice job. I can see the advantage of the wider mounting points.
Good first post

Bananahead let us see the rest of the load out. That carrier plate is awesome but I think the most interesting thing is what people put in these packages.

That is pretty comprehensive! Your concentration on hygiene and body care is interesting, thanks for the bag-tour, bud.

Oh no, I got nothing negative to say about your set up. And I can understand why all of those things are useful. Everybody pack their own pack and hikes their own hike, and I like to hear about that kinda stuff. Also I have a mini kit I am trying to get built on a maxped bottle holder and I like to cherry pick ideas.

Maxpedition is having a sale until the 7th of may "buy one khaki 12x5 bottle holder get one free".The coupon code is 12x5bogo . That is all.

Wow, this threads still going lol. I wonder how many water bottle carriers were bought because of it? Two that I know of for sure, and probably a third soon.

With water and gear this thing can get heavy for a shoulder strap quick. I have mine set up with a janus pouch on the shoulder strap, a T.M. Hunt Yuma knife on one side of the water bottle now. It stays in the truck always unless I am carrying it. Had an organizer on the other side but took it off. There is one with a similar set up in the wife's trunk.

Hehe..bought two..so far. Planning on two more, and the round tin carriers as well.

Hello!

Love mine on and off other gear:
