Fonly, Here are the G2L beam shots you requested (sorry, only P&S here). Second pics are at lower exposure. Looking at the pics this morning, I guess I should have took some at a higher exposure too; let me know if this works for ya. A 4D LED maglite and 2AA mini-maglite are provided for comparison, all flashlights were placed in the same position around 2m from the wall, and camera settings and location were identical between different flashlights. I didn't swap out batteries for new ones because I meant for these to be general pics showing just beam pattern, but the batteries in each light are pretty fresh with less than 15 minutes of use.
4D LED Maglite
2AA LED Mini-Maglite
Surefire G2 LED
I was amazed by how much the Surefire blew the 4D LED maglite out of the water in regards to illumination. However, the runtime on 4D must be much longer than the Surefire's two CR123s (only what I'd think - I've never drained the 4D maglite yet). The beam pattern on the 4D is horrible, as you can see. I couldn't produce a nice uniform beam, and this was surprising considering the nice beam the 2AA mini produced.
I still love my 2AA LED mini-mag; the beam pattern is nice and uniform as you can see, and the light provides a good balance of spill and throw. It's a respectable light that would do everything one would need it to do in the woods. The G2L is just a beast of a light though, and I am very happy with it. For me, it crushes the mini-mag in every aspect except absolute cost (not value) and battery availability. Both spill and throw are amazing. You can tell from the pics that the spill is much better than even a 4D maglite, and judging from outside use it seems to throw light farther (only qualitative assessment, sorry). As you can see, the beam pattern is excellent. The weight difference between the two is negligible. Overall, in light of my limited experience, it is a fantastic flashlight! Let me know if you need me to take other pics Fonly.
And since we're on lights, I just wanted to throw in these pics of the
Spotlit LED Carabiner Light from County Comm. They're excellent little things that allow you to quickly locate gear and people (and would make an excellent signal at night if swung around on a rope); I absolutely love em. They have a steady and blink mode, and the batteries are 2x2016 and easily replaceable. They're great for night walks/jogs on dark roads too. No idea of run time as one hasn't died on me yet.
ETA: I'm hoping to get out on at least a short day hike tomorrow, will post part two of the review as soon as I can!
