Maxpedition's Mad Dog Knives knockoffs?!

Geez you are a sensitive pony and you are still not reading what I am actually saying. I took the Maxpedition gear, packed it up, mailed it to another person I don't know who wanted it from another forum. That took some effort. I was a patron of both companies. Therefore I have a vested interest in the behavior of both. I spent money with both. You obviously are having trouble understanding the point. Let me see if this helps. <Cartman megaphone on>I THINK THE OWNER OF MAXPEDITION DID A DICK MOVE. I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD CONSIDER THIS IF THEY LIKE SUPPORTING SMALL CUSTOM KNIFE MAKERS LIKE MAD DOG. THERE ARE OTHER US-MADE BAG MANUFACTURERS WHO MIGHT BE MORE DESERVING OF YOUR MONEY THAN RELABELED CHINESE-MADE MAGFORCE BAGS.<Cartman megaphone off>. If you're unfamiliar with the reference, please check this YouTube video for help: http://youtu.be/bqlplW3iYB0

What's amusing is that it took you more effort to type out this post than any effort you actually made to showcase your self-called "superior" morals and ethics. LOL

I agree that it was pretty terrible of Tim to do. My only point is that we shouldn't rule out all of his products because he made one unsavory business decision (or two, hadn't heard of the belt). I don't like how Lynn Thompson does things but I like Cold Steel's products. Sometimes businesses should just let the products speak for themselves.
Lynn Thompson often contacts manufacturers and purchases the rights to use their designs. We've had more than one knife manufacturer come on this forum and speak up for him in that regard.

The angst and drama is why I hang out here. Well, that and the righteous indignation shown in response to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. :D
Now quit feeding him, willya? :D

Lol. I made no inference toward you or anyone else. Your sensitivity is showing which is usually a sign I might have touched a nerve. You're making this personal for no reason. Why?

Also your reading is weak. I stated: "All of my Maxpedition gear is now given away or thrown out." Since you seen to have a problem with it: 2 versipacks, 2 octopod knife cases, a key fob, a phone case, and some other stuff were sent to a guy on another forum because he asked for them. One phone case with a broken clip was tossed.

As a patron of Mad Dog Knives I think it's important to take a public stand when I think a small American business is a.) getting the shaft from a larger one and b.) a custom maker that I like is getting stabbed in the back by a supposed friend. I think that's worth some public support, don't you? I'm just willing to put forth some actual effort and as I said, put my money where my mouth is, and I did. If you don't like that, then I think I'm not the one with the problem. As for "superior moral fortitude", yeah, I think mine is superior to many. So far the only one getting emotional here is you Quiet.

Not buying from maxpedition any more due to you not agreeing with his recent business practices I can understand. But I have never understood the whole "This company did X, Y and/or Z wrong so I gave away or threw away everything I had from them. And I will attack the quality of the product and say its chinese garbage". This stuff was obviously good enough for you right up to the point you heard of this problem. Then due to an ethics issue that really has NOTHING to do with you if you dont have a foot in either company you attack its quality and profess how you gave it away or threw it away. This does not seem mature or rational thinking. The fact this dude copied designs has nothing to do with the quality of his previous products.

I guess I just dont understand how people will buy stuff, think its great and due to a completely unrelated incident (that really has nothing to do with anyone but the parties involved) turn on a dime and now the incident automatically makes everything they previously purchased worthless. It seems like petty grandstanding. Should the dude have consulted first before making the knives? Yep, No doubt. But its not like he pulled a microtech and said "F it, im gonna make em anyway". He saw how upset it made the guy and others and he scrapped the entire project. Albeit all the mistakes being his own but I think the guy is class act for dropping it and trying to move on. Maybe its best if the people who dont have a dog in the fight take a page out of the same play book. I admire that you have values and you believe in them. But I still think your reaction to the situation was a bit, well, odd, uneconomical and irrational.

this is old news, and they are not here, therefore I have zero right to comment, You quoted from an AP wire story, Full details of the story have been posted days ago, explaining everything, any more questions ?? Any other concerns, rumors help no one. You have a great night and welcome to this site, lots of really great things going on here and lots to learn, your friend rb

PS THE FINE GENTLEMAN WHO OWNS AND OPERATES THIS SITE SPENDS TONS OF MONEY FOR YOUR RIGHT TO EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS. WHEN I THINK OF ETHICS I DON'T THINK OF YOU OWNING $200-400 KNIVES, BAGS AND GEAR AND NOT SPENDING $35 TO USE WHAT MR. SPARK PROVIDED. WHAT IF NO ONE PAID, HIS FAMILY DEPENDS ON THIS FOR A LIVING.

Most of the buying and selling is done here 100% free and this is a site you chose to discuss your ideals and ethics. If I entered free, I would be glad to set back. Your brought this attention to yourself. I don't see either company paying the light bills here. Before you give away your bags, sell them here and send Spark the money. PLEASE

I have read this entire thread. And after much careful consideration I have decided to help out by taking one for the team. Anyone who has Maxpedition products and wants to dispose of them, and anyone who has Mad Dog products and wants to dispose of them, just PM or email me for my address and I will give them a good home. I hope this offer helps some of you out of a tough delima and you can ship, then put it all behind you.

I like my max gear just fine. Dude screwed up o well, your day is really messed up by it huh?
Well giving your stuff away will probably make you feel better.

Gonna take my sitka to work tomorrow like I always do, with my razorshell, beefy, and an admin pouch tucked inside :)

Not give it all away like a foooool.

Does this mean you don't need my address afterall? What about your Mad Dog knives? I'm willing to help the team either way?:D

Interesting. I thought this thread was going to be moved to W&C as opposed to feedback.

Is it ok if I buy new stuff to send to you? I'm afraid if I give away all my high quality gear, I may no longer be ethically inferior. I wouldn't want to get stuck on my ivory tower, I'm a little scared of heights :o

I did consider that. But since we have ethical exemplars involved, we need to respect their sincerity.

Whine & Cheese for ranting, FEEDBACK for critiques of behavior.

From the thread linked at the start -

Captain Jake January 20, 2014 at 6:41 pm:

"Both Tang and McClung need to grow a spine.
Tang – Stand by your product. If it's as good as you can make it don't be ashamed and dump it (to the tune of $100K+).
McClung – Down big fella! If he did "steal" your copyrighted design then sue him. If not, you might want to reconsider your products price points (just sayin').
Otherwise, welcome to the free market. Competition…, she's a b&*ch!"

No need to add anything else.

Santa brought me Maxpedition bag for Christmas, but I can't get rid of it because that would make Santa very very sad Santa.

I know Santa. I asked him about this on your behalf (no need to thank me). He says he is good with it as long as you send it to me. He had both Tang and McClung scratched off his list this year anyway and you were borderline on the Santa demerit system. Oh... and he says to tell you to delete your browser history.

This is my obligatory post where i ask the members involved to stay on the topic at hand and not discuss one another. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I'm old, been floating around forums for awhile. There are other forums that do not welcome Tim Tang. If he is still welcome here, that is nice, he needs some place to hang out until he offends this forum. I don't wish him any ill will, I have had my own issues and without forgiveness-- well that is another story. Anyways, we vote with our wallets, so we will see what happens.

My guess is that Maxpedition and McClung had an agreement and McClung pulled out after thousands of dollars had been spent by Maxpedition on engineering and prototypes. Thats just a guess.
I would love to see his "Trademarks".
