May 2025 Buck of the Month - 112 Slim Pro TRX MagnaCut Blade with Silver Aluminum Handle

I do wonder how much longer Buck will do a star wars themed BOTM. Maybe they might consider doing special Pop culture themes on their own runs and have BOTM as their own.

If I were Buck, I would continue to do Star Wars themes as long as they continue to be popular. There are countless subjects to pick from in the Star Wars universe. They can't, of course, say they are Star Wars themed unless they pay licensing fees. Some people like to collect entire sets of things. But you have a point in that they could continue to have May 4th releases but decoupled from the BOTM. They could start other sets too that could be released periodically, not necessary related to pop culture; like a jig boned set, a military set, a Big 5 set, etc. I am a little baffled because I am under the impression that these special releases have a higher profit margin than standard production but it seems Buck makes less of them than they used to when they had SFOs (made at a lower profit margin). Does the smaller number of direct-to-customer releases generate more profit than the larger number of SFOs they used to have? Is Buck's production capacity saturated, where they can't produce more? Does their economic model say that customers wouldn't buy more? Is there some other issue that a neophyte like myself isn't considering? Buck has been in business for a long time. So at this point, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, from my uninformed position, that they know what they are doing.

I think Buck decided it was to much time and trouble for SFO's..And of course they sold at wholesale. I'm sure bean counters RULE like most corporations and decisions must be made that reflect that. I'm sure that special collector knives are a small percentage of overall sales now but years ago it was higher.
