May replace my Sebbie as EDC...

I bought a Doug Ritter Mini Grip, my very first benchmade, and I took it to work today in place of my trusted large 21 insingo...I'm going to use it the rest of the week and see how I feel about carrying it in place of my Sebenza for EDC work. It's a great knife, disappears in the pocket, fun to open and close (frequently), solid lockup, M390 steel and awesome stone wash finish. So far I'm impressed! One thing I much prefer on the Sebbie is the pocket clip...it's the best out there.

I wondered the same thing about the Sage 1 after getting it but after carrying it for a week or so, I decided the Sebbie was the superior EDC knife and only carry the Sage when going out because it's such a classy looking knife. Anybody kick their Sebenza out of full time EDC in place of another knife?

I really love the Griptilian line!! There are a lot of things I like about it over many other knives. Even the Seb

Love my Griptilian, too! Good, strong lock, fantastic ergonomics...Only thing I'd change about it is the finish. Wish it had a nice stonewash finish like yours instead of a crude, ugly gray finish.

The stonewash is very nicely done. It's not quite sebenza smooth, and I can detect the slightest bit of horizontal grind lines on the top in the right light, but it's a really nice finish. From what I gather M390 is better than S35VN, at least in edge retention...I haven't tried sharpening it yet, but I find the sebenza a breeze to sharpen on the sharp maker. I did manage to cut my pinky closing it but that's par for the course because I have large hands, it's happened with every new knife I've owned.

The mini grip is one of the best! For another $100 or so, you can put custom scales and that makes a great knife a perfect knife!! All for about half the price of the sebenza!!

The mini Ritter is a very capable knife. It has a lot of things to like about it at only a fraction the cost of a Sebenza.

Enjoy!

I guess I don't have a folder that has replaced any of my other folders. I rotate around 30+ EDCs, some of which are Small Sebenzas (an Ironwood and a KACF) and some of which are Benchmades (an M4 Mini-Grip and a 707 Sequel). The EDC that goes in my pocket on any given day is the one that I feel like carrying that day. Today it's my Kizer Gemini. Tomorrow, who knows? If I replace a folder to the extent that I know I won't carry it anymore, I sell it.

FYI ...

If you'd like it to disappear in your pocket even more, call Benchmade Customer Support and ask for a deep carry pocket clip for your Mini Grip. They'll send you one for FREE!

And if you REALLY want it to disappear in your pocket, do what I do and remove the clip altogether. ;) If you're anything like me, you won't believe how much better your Mini-Grip (or practically any other folder I've encountered) will feel in your hand with the clip removed. Try it. You might like it. And if you don't, you can always put the clip back on. :)

30 EDCs...

30 days in a month...

A different one each day.

Coincidence? :)

It could be if I were more disciplined. But I'm not. Sometimes I'll carry one of my EDCs for a day or two. More often I'll carry it for a week or two. And without a doubt, some of the my folders get more pocket time than others. All depends on how the spirit moves me. :)

The only knife I carry on a daily basis is my William Henry B7-FT. That's because it lives in the coin compartment of my wallet. Here's a borrowed pic:

I also carry a Leatherman Micra every day.

I'm pretty early in my knife collecting career so my sebenza is SO good it drives me away from wanting to carry any other of my knives.

Yep, that is the truth. I take off the clip from all of my knives 3" of blade or less. It makes them much better in the hand and better in the pocket.

So you just stick them in your deep pocket instead of using the pocket clip? Not sure I really like the feel of the mini grip when clipped, though like I said before, it does kind of disappear, it's just not very quick to clip to my jeans.

As funny as it may seem....I don't think us knife nuts (most of us anyways) are really looking for the perfect EDC. I don't know any knife guys that find "the one" and then just stop all together :P I tend to carry a knife for a week or so, and then swap it out. I only keep the knives that I like, and even if they have some quirks I just consider it their "personality" if you will, he he.

I typically rotate between:

-Large Sebenza Insingo (probably my favorite overall)
-Medford 187DP
-Medford 187RMP
-Microtech Troodon
-Protech TR-2
-Viper Odino
-Paramilitary 2
-Bradford Guardian 3

As you can see, my tastes in knives are all over the place :D But I like each and every one for different reasons!

I thought one would go from the grip to the sebenza and not the other way. LOL.. Maybe just me as I have small 21 coming and was hoping it would be one of my daily edc, but I have my doubts as I rotate about 15.
Trying to dwindle down to 5..My wilkins mini grip being one of them.
I have always admired the ritter grip with the s30v/m390 as the blade is wider, which looks better on aftermarket scales.

I currently only own:

-Ontario Rat 1
-L Seb 21 Ins
-Sage 1
-PM2
-BM Mini Rit
-Case Sodbuster
-Buck Mini Taclite

A small but mighty starter collection...also may explain why my Seb is in my pocket so often! The PM2 is a fantastic knife but it's a pocket hog. Sage is too pretty to scuff up and is perfect for weddings and outings, and I would never wanna carry the Rat in place of my Seb. To be honest I need about 100 more knives.

This, really. I have two CRK knives that I love VERY much, but I also love being spoiled for choices, so my EDC rotation tends to be about as large as Bld522's is. CRK, Kershaw, ZT, Medford, Mcusta, Cold Steel, just a real rotation. I mean, sure, to an objective outsider it might not make sense, but I just love having different knives, and I'll generally carry whatever I feel like that day. I mean, today, I have a Cold Steel Finn Wolf in my pocket. That's right, I wanted to carry it instead of my CRK Insingo. No real reason, just think it's a neat knife.

To be fair, I ALWAYS carry my CRK with me. Today, it's in its leather pocket slip in my day bag.

Yep. I actually dedicate a pocket to EDC carry . . . my left (weak side) front pocket, to be precise. That way I don't have to worry about my EDC getting scratched up. And I never use a pocket sheath. There's no reason to do that when my entire pocket IS a sheath. I also feel more secure with my knife deep inside my pocket. There's no clip for something to snag on and pull my knife out of my pocket without my knowledge. (If you don't think that happens, do a search.) Last but not least, if I don't have a folder clipped to my pocket, I'm not advertising that I'm carrying a knife. And that's exactly what I'm looking for. Nobody needs to know I've got a knife on me but me.

Having said all that, there are legitimate reasons for carrying a knife clipped to your pocket. It's just that none of those reasons outweigh the reasons I don't do that. YMMV, of course.
