Speaking of knives that replace others, I applied for the wait list for an EK&T Companion this morning. I get the feeling I'm going to like this enough that it's going to seriously change my EDC system.
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

Yep. I actually dedicate a pocket to EDC carry . . . my left (weak side) front pocket, to be precise. That way I don't have to worry about my EDC getting scratched up. And I never use a pocket sheath. There's no reason to do that when my entire pocket IS a sheath. I also feel more secure with my knife deep inside my pocket. There's no clip for something to snag on and pull my knife out of my pocket without my knowledge. (If you don't think that happens, do a search.) Last but not least, if I don't have a folder clipped to my pocket, I'm not advertising that I'm carrying a knife. And that's exactly what I'm looking for. Nobody needs to know I've got a knife on me but me.
Having said all that, there are legitimate reasons for carrying a knife clipped to your pocket. It's just that none of those reasons outweigh the reasons I don't do that. YMMV, of course.
On that I have to concur. I've got one knife I've left the clip on for that very reason . . . a Kizer Tomcat Splinter. It's not that the knife is tiny, it's that it's an extremely narrow framelock and without the clip, it's almost impossible to keep from putting finger pressure on the lockbar. That, of course, makes it difficult to open even though it's a bearing flipper. Fortunately, the clip on the Splinter sits very close to the frame, so it really doesn't get in my way. Here's a borrowed pic so you can see what I'm talking about:Some tiny knives it's helpful to have a clip for grip when opening.
The 707 Sequel is one that comes to mind immediately. I also had to focus a little more when I first took the clip off my plain jane small 21. Opening and especially closing was a bit trickier. It's all good now though. Also, a 3" XM-18 feels so much better without a clip, but I kinda got my finger in the way of closing it once since it makes the feel of the knife totally different. Luckily that one was dull enough it didn't even scratch me.On that I have to concur. I've got one knife I've left the clip on for that very reason . . . a Kizer Tomcat Splinter. One of the things that drives me crazy is when a manufacturer uses the clip as a LBS. I've never bent the lockbar on a Ti framelock that didn't have a LBS, so I just basically disregard their warnings against removing the clips and take them off anyway.
Wow those scales are awesome! Anybody know where to get some solid CF scales for mini grip? I've been searching. Can't imagine those contributing too much weight to the mini grip...

This is the guy I got mine from. They aren't cheap, but they are worth it to me. They add just enough weight to give it a solid feeling. I would buy them again if I bought a new knife.
