MAYBE the most beautiful and affordable traditional luxury European knife EVER!

On pop music forums we call this type of behavior "stanning". It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Thanks a lot! But... even if it was, I wouldn't be ashamed!!! :) I just stand my ground, for 99% of French knife experts/addicts agree with me. I've seen people here who are much, much, much more brand-obsessed than me... Some buy the same Spyderco or Victorinox 3, 5, 10 times, with absolutely no reason except a light change in the color or the shape... Maybe they say they don't advertise those knives, but I think they're trapped in some kind of commercial hysteria, much more than I am...

So you're saying that the whole luxury industry is a joke. For... how much money a Chanel N°5 really costs? I'd say: 10% of the market price, not more. A Français is a luxury product, any French expert will tell you. It's a product you offer only to the people you really love.

If its such a luxury product....why the way less than luxury steel?

And no one has EVER complained about their knives? Come on. Nonsense.

As for the look of the knives? Glad you like them, but they don't move me or make me want to eat anything. I've seen nicer from France.

I've always considered Laguiole as a nonsense brand. I hate using those knives.
Of course, you can find nicer knives in France. Have a look at what Raphael Durand creates. He's the best, imho. But the prices are clearly higher: he's a top-class knives-designer and creates very few products a year.
I'd like all of you to touch this knife (by Raphael Durand) and use it, so that you realize it has nothing in common with industrial knives. Just nothing. But it's definitely not what I call "affordable" (his average prices are around 500 Euros).

Alex17, you talk too much. When you feel there's a problem, don't babble, just contact me and wait till I'm back online to respond to it. Instead, you turned your knife thread into a Tech Support discussion on deal spotting. The link was OK, we do allow manufacturer links; I misread it as a dealer. I reversed your warning and restored the link.

Find a Français owner who complains about the quality of it, and I pay you an Opinel. I promise. I've never seen one, and I use to read everything I can about this knife on forums.

Thanks a lot.
And yes, I talk too much, you're right... You know... the Southern part of Europe is a non-stop-babble zone... Sorry. ;)

Nice looking knives. I'm into simple lines so this really appeals to me. Two things I would change would be to upgrade the steel to 154cm or even 1095 and make it a slipjoint. At the price point of 114 Euros($150), this should be doable. Of course there's American companies that already do that.

There is no such thing as 'luxury' steel. Considering that you can easily spend five grand plus for a 440C bladed folder, or double that for ATS-34, or double again for 1095 bowies, then steel obviously has nothing to do with prices once they get above a couple hundred bucks.

The dogpiling was also completely unecessary since the OP wasn't a violation to begin with. Alex needed to talk less, and the armchair mods needed to not talk at all.

I really like all the knives in this thread. I'd love to be able to get my hands on a Rotosphere! And, the Perceval folders look really classy. They would make a very nice "dressy" knife for special occasions (unfortunately, in my day-to-day life, I don't spend much time in the "fancy" universe... maybe if I suddenly become a billionaire and can afford to walk around in Armani suits all day... sigh).
Alex17, look at some of the custom traditional makers we have here in the Traditional Forum section. Ken Erickson, for example, makes pocket knives in the traditional American style, but sometimes with modern materials like G10 and carbon fiber, and "super-steels," while still producing elegant, luxurious pieces.

Thanks a lot, nice to meet someone who fully understands my point. I'm gonna explore the Traditional Forum section right now! ;)
(And the comparison between the Perceval Français and a sober Italian black cloth is pretty accurate, I think...)

Quite nice knives, though I noticed a problem on their website.

The #09 is listed as guiac wood.

That may be completely legitimate outside the English-speaking world, but in English, guiac is the name for a specific medical test for detecting blood in fecal matter. Not the image they want, I'm sure.

They'd be better suited to use the English name for the guiacum tree- Lignum Vitae.

LOL...that's not English either. :D

Common name from a Google search is Ironwood. Back to the knives though. That Sgian Dubh looks nice. A little out of my price range though.

They do look nice, but I don't see that much there for the price, in terms of materials and design. Materials aren't very special, and the design is... a rectangle with a swiss army knife blade. Not exactly ingenious or innovative.

Beautiful yes, affordable no. Gorgeous knife but way too expensive for me for what you're getting. For that much I'd sooner look at a lot of Laguiole style knives. Just my 0.02$.
