MAYBE the most beautiful and affordable traditional luxury European knife EVER!

Nonsense. Opinels and Vics don't challenge it as EDCs? Or are you just indulging in hyperbole?

I really find Laguiole totally overrated, really. I find their knives ugly, mostly unuseful, and sometimes horribly poor on a qualitative point of view. The guys who rule the brand would sell their own daughters in order to make more money. Laguiole is a mess to me.

And I see Vic as some kind of world in itself, totally disconnected to the "real" knives market. Just like Disney parks, you know: they're probably great, but I get bored the moment I get in.

I respect people who respect Laguiole and Vic: no fandom is stupid (as long as it's not the Mantis Militia). Laguiole and Vic are just huge worldwide brands with millions of different products, and Perceval has nothing to do with their ways.

I don't see how Victorinox is "...disconnected to the "real" knives market." Are you saying Vic SAKs are not "real" knives...like a serious knife user wouldn't use one? Or are you saying Vic isn't in touch with the real world? They seem to be in touch with it...I hear their knives are quite popular.

I get the fact that you think these Francias knives are the greatest things ever, and "untouchable" as EDCs to you, but to say that Opinels and Vics are not in the same league as EDCs is kinda narrow minded, in my book.

But, you and everyone else are entitled to like what they like (unless it's Mantis, right!?! :D)

Don't care for the others but this one works for me.

They look like quality build, but don't "float my boat" I'm afraid; good luck to those who like 'em.

I actually prefer the simple "rustic" look of the German Mercator. IMHO; they are very affordable, practical and just plain GOOD!

they're ok. I've seen a couple of L-series ones and they're well-made and elegant for sure. Also overpriced for what you're getting, imo.

They're hugely popular, you're right. But I can't stop thinking "When things get serious, who wants a Vic instead of a Leatherman Super-Tool 300?" I can't prevent myself from seeing Vic products as cute knives.

And I don't consider Le Français as "the untouchable EDC", definitely not. I consider that a real EDC has to be very solid. A Manix2 would be more "untouchable" in my eyes. What fascinates me in Le Français is that it expresses what I prefer in design: absolute simplicity.

Like this, in some way, let's say:

Who wants a Vic? I do. But Vic SAKs must not be as "serious" or "real" as as that Percerval (it is the Chanel No. 5 of knives!).

And as for the "untouchable EDC" thing, I guess I misunderstood you in your OP in this thread when you posted:

"Le Français is unchallengeable in the "European no-bullshit EDC" category."

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't mind the steel as long as the HT is good. This blade reminds me of the gentleman's version of the Emerson A-100 series.

You're right. I misexpressed my idea. I wanted to say "European no-bullshit EDC for simple tasks mixed with visual pleasure".

I'll take my Victorinox Compact over that knife. Steel might not satisfy the steel snobs, but the edge geometry is good & it works fine for me. Added bonus - scissors, bottle opener/screwdriver, tweezers, toothpick, corkscrew, eyeglass screwdriver, pen, and a pin. All that & it cost me under $30.

It's a nice looking knife, but a bit more than I'd spend for it.

That said, the way you are pushing it causes it to lose appeal.

To be honest I prefer the Le Thiers Chambriard Compacts/Compagnons over these. Not only are they less expensive, but in my opinion they are more aesthetically pleasing.

If things got serious, I would take any Victorinox instead of your fancy Perceval. My Vic Farmer outperforms my Leatherman Juice XE6 in any possible way (bigger and better blade and saw, for instance). My Vic Rescue wayyyyy outperforms my Skeletool. And I can't think of anything at all that my Leatherman Surge can do and my Vic Spirit cannot.

I have them all, I have used and abused them all so, maybe, I do know what I'm talking about. But, then again, I'm not much of a fanboy who blindly follows brands.

Perceval makes good looking folders that performs not much more than any Opinel and are WAY overpriced. Fallkniven makes even better looking folders that REALLY performs for a slightly cheaper price tag.

No matter what u post on here someone will find something to criticize. For me this post opened my eyes to a whole world I didnt know existed, nice French folders. Not that Im going to run out and buy one. My grandfather died saving their country and french peeps dont like Americans?! They would be speaking german if it wasnt for us Americans!

Believe it or not, I'm very proud of that.

Absolutely right. I live in Paris, and I help American tourists anytime they need help, advices, translations, etc, in this big not-so-welcoming city. I always tell myself: "This man's grandfather saved my country, this woman's grandfather saved my freedom." Always.

For the ones in the 150ish price range, I'd say ya worth it; sure, very nice looking by the way.

As for they ones that are not-soo-much waffle house prices; just get a sebenza/umnum instead.

JUST MY TAKE.
JUST MY TAKE.

Yes, and if it wasn't for them we'd have the Queen on our money.

But by all means let's keep this circular, blindly patriotic, chest thumping match going.

Very nice knives. A little overpriced, IMO. But there is something refreshing about their elegant simplicity. I'll probably stick with my Opinels though...
