Meaning of your forum name

My favorite motorcycle is my '95 Ducati 900SS SP. "desmobob" is a combination of the first part of "desmodromic" (unusual valve actuation system of the Ducati) and my first name.

Since there are many new folks here, I would like to start this one again. It has been a while since we posted the meaning or our forum name.

Hmmmmmm, very enlightening thread.

I'm hesitant to explain mine, but after reading all the others here, I'll go ahead.

Long story short: Back in 1986, I was well into my second year of my navy enlistment, and thinking I'd rather have joined the marines. I decided the SEALs might be a better (and quicker to get into) alternative. Well, at 5'11', and 270 pounds, I was told that I resembled a killer whale more than a SEAL. All kinds of stupid jokes followed: Can I do two things at once? Like shoot somebody while balancing a red ball on my nose? :D ;) (I didn't join the navy SF community; in my first physical, the MO's found out that I had started to go deaf on one side, so I didn't continue with the application process.)

My navy years were 1985-1989, so there it is - orca8589.

Quite easy in my case. I love to wander through the woods and to read Tolkien. I used to be Tree Herder without "V". "V" had to be added when I found out that I could not get any messages from Bladeforums administrator on my new e-mail address....

I thought it is just "wicked "to buy and buy knives with an unlimited life time warranty and to really need only one :o

.

I used to do some car racing, I.E. SCCA club road racing, Pro rally, Autocross, on day, someone added the "CCI" to the end of my last name thinking it gave it an Italian sound to it, and they though it ought to be worth 30MPH more. It stuck and has been my nick name for over 30yrs now. :D

.

Hey, you beat Buffum in '84!;)

Now that is a Bike

I'm glad you like it... the photo doesn't really do her justice. I've had that bike for 13 years. When I leave work and walk out to the parking lot and see it, I STILL shake my head and say, "Damn, that's a pretty machine." The Italian marriage of form and function....

Ok FBUSMCHOG > Joined the United States Marine Corps in 82 as a child hood dream.. The Corps as a military branch has no equal. "yes there are specialized units in other branches that are good too" but as an overall fighting unit.. I wanted to be part of the best.. Blew out my knee, and had to take a military discharge along with a reconstruction. My son has carried on the Corps tradition and has served one tour in Iraq so far in an MP unit.. I am so proud of him, I can't express it in words. High school diploma... "I teach almost anybody can get one of those.. but when he walked across the parade deck at Parris Island, I cried like a baby, cause I knew what he had to go through to get that EGA. thus, the fbusmc... as my commemoration to the Corps, and HOG>> because it is my LARGEST expenditure on Enjoyment :-)

[Off Topic]

A Marine should always be proud. It's tough to earn that status, and even tougher to live up to it for a lifetime.

Although I was "just" in the USAF, I was proud to serve with many Marines. They were invariably completely professional, top performers, and basically fearless. I was lucky enough to have 3 Marines as Deputies over the years -- they kept me out of a LOT of trouble.

Semper Fi.

i work with and around a lot of former and current military personnel.

those that serve and have served in the marine corps are by far my favorites to be around. not sure why. perhaps their bravado, integrity, and directness have much to do with it.

nothing against any other branch, far from it.

but whats the "fb"?

Mine happens to just be a nick name some of my stoner buddies from highschool liked to call me.
