Meaning of your forum name

Unlike the wild assumption that was posted by a member in a thread here a while back.

Bastid - an enigma. The term was coined years ago by a few knifemakers and collectors that hung around in BFC chat. The enigma part was that we did and still do what we could (mostly quietly) to assist folks that needed help.

Unlike the poster that described me, the name has nothing to do with his assumption of intimidation or anything along those lines.

Lycosa??
Only Amy will know that one. :D

From Wikipedia:

Lycosa is a genus of wolf spiders. There are more than 200 species are found throughout most of the world. Often called the "True Tarantula", Lycosa can be distingished from common wolf spiders by their relatively large size. This genus includes the european Lycosa Tarantula which was once associated with the "Tarantellism". Symptoms included shaking, cold sweats, and a high fever, which was thought to be cured only with the traditional Tarantella dance. The true culprit was, of course, the european widow of the theridiidae family.

So in short some type of PIG-SPIDER. :D:D:D

Hmmm... let's see... my name is Chas and I'm a HOG... no mystery here. I suggested ChasHOG to Amy-0 and she went with it. I know, not a great story, but there it is.

I've been asked why all caps and if I'm really that egotistical, but it's actually due to my own ineptness. When I first registered with BF, I was a newbie to the net and didn't realize all caps was considered shouting--it was just an easy way for me to enter the info. I tried a couple of times to change it to caps/lower case, but without success--finally gave up. Back in earlier days it was not uncommon to use real names, so these days my screen name is doubly out-of-step--a newbie then, a dinosaur now...and a fair approximation of the story of my life.

I do wish I was one of the cool Bastids, though. :D

I once worked for a call center doing support for AT&T Wireless customers. One day I found on an internal website an image of a panicked looking monkey, with the caption "Disaster Monkey" under it. The image linked to a page detailing how to assist customers who had suffered tragedies, such as 9/11, or wildfires in California.

So Disaster Monkey, I suppose, is the official mascot for all that is chaotic and destructive in the world ...

I work in a clinical microbiology lab. Have always liked the way Necrotizing fasciitis sounds. Lost my original web name awhile ago. So during an evening of heavy bourbon drinking I signed up again and thought necrotizing was appropriate for a knife forum.
