Silly designs? Don't knock em till you try em. laughable warranty? They'll fix anything that goes wrong or breaks. Cash in your beer cans and spend the $20 to send it in. Take it apart and screw it up, well I wouldn't cover that either, who would? Poor geometry? Well works for me, must not work for you. Low end steel? Must be referring to D2. You might want to talk to Bob Dozier about that and the many other Professional knife makers. Hell I remember when 440C was high tech, you must be young. Overpriced? Received my Arktika today, worth every penny to me, love it. Everything is overpriced if you can't afford it, at least that's my way of thinking.

To show my age, I also remember when Rat Fink was a hot rod car mascot created by ED "Big Daddy" Roth. I know, I know your rat finkenstein the kitty cat. Rat Fink was actually a rat, now that's kinda funny.

Quite a few companies will cover knives even after disassembly. KAI springs immediately to mind.

Bob dozier could use aus-8 and still command high prices because he is a custom maker who has earned his reputation and is one of the biggest names in knife making period. Medford is no bob dozier and thats not me trashing him that is just a fact. D2 is not considered a premium steel by todays standards in most cases. Is it a bad performer? No. but there are a lot of steels that are cheap and work well as a knife blade. I dont think its completely out of line for people to assume that when you decide to invest the amount of money into a knife that a medford commands that one should get a better return on the investment. Imho every aspect of how a medford is made should see a reduction in costs yet they charge you more for it. There is probably more cost that goes into he actual raw materials because of how thick everything has to be but that is the only area where I see they offer more than another conpany.

Am I going to get my head chewed off if I say I don't like the looks of them at all...?

I think the Arktika looks nice. But for $850 I think I'd get a better value elsewhere. Maybe two. However , I still like the looks of the Praetorian even though I think it's overpriced as well. But I still want them both. My opinion.

I don't personally like D2 at all, it has the advantage of being cheap to buy, so using it saves the maker a ton of cash. Custom knife makers use any variety of steels, you are paying for more than just the materials with a good custom maker.
I have read the warranty. Overbuilt knife but the warranty is void if you look at it funny.
Thick stock plus short grinds = poor geometry.
Silly designs? Debatable. . They appeal to the same niche as those lumpy starlingear baubles.

Profile name is derived in part from Big Daddy Roth's cartoon.

I think medfords would be great. At half the price. As is, tho.. OVER-BUILT SUPER TOUGH HANDLE ANYTHING (half fiberous polymer construction, non maintainable, do not dis-assemble).. You have to admit, its an odd bit of counterposition.. Soo tough, but if someone were to take it down and reassemble it, all the tough leaks out? No longer waranteed? What? What kind of faith is that in your product? They're either tanks or they're precision lab insturments, make up the mind.
They are unique looking tho. Bet yer ass if I found a full TI version that was scratched up enough for me to afford, I'd buy it to try it. Especially if it were D2..

I really like the Praetorian and the Marauder. Something about the design just really speaks to me.

I love my Praetorian T, everything about it. But I can respect the fact it's not for everyone. I enjoy a big hefty knife.

It's so nice to see logic and common sense posts like this. I laughed hard at "Soo tough, but if someone were to take it down and reassemble it, all the tough leaks out?"

Strongest knife EVER- oh but don't touch it or use it too much!!! Ugly useless man jewelry. A collectors toy? yes i'll agree it's a great toy to collect.

I'm currently being seduced by a Praetorian G/T in OD Green as well as a Praetorian T in S35VN. I gawk at both online daily.

I'm trying to talk myself out of it especially since I could get numerous other knives for the $600-$800 it costs to grab one of these Praetorians. But I'm still debating.

I like it, I will buy one for my collection eventually, I can also see why people dont like them, but thats the beauty of having so many choices as a knife nut

I agree they aren't for everyone. But I love mine.

Well to be fair to medford that knife looks like some thought as well as effort was utilized to make it. While not my cup of tea i certainly can see some finesse it it that i usually dont see in their products.

That's fair. I appreciate the honest input.

I think i can be nicer than that. :D. No seriously aside from the extra bulk which just isnt for me i actually really like it. The blade grind is very crisp and nicely done and it just looks a lot more polished than other medfords. I honestly didnt even know they did a satin finish. I thought everything was tumbled, blasted or vulcan. Now if he did something slim and light i would probably lookin at them. But I understand they do what they do and i have plenty of options. But seriously, this may be he only time i say it. Nice medford.
