Message from Ethan Becker

I'm hoping the new versions from Ka-Bar will have handles more like the micarta grips Camillus sold as accessories rather than the huge, rounded, slippery grips that came on the knives from the factory.

Darn it! I thought there might be some new new's here!

Not sure if anyone is still checking this thread...

The Bad News...I just checked with Kabar, and only the necker will be out this fall. Nothing else will be out before SHOT Show 2009.

The Really Bad News...Blade magazine said that the San Mai version of the necker will be MADE IN CHINA! I hope this doesn't mean the rest of the line will be China-junk!

i for one will refuse to buy a chinese made knife. sorry, even if it's a Becker design. on general principles and all that.

worse, sometime 1-2 months BEFORE the official release, and 2-3 months after, another company will probably be magically selling clones of the exact same knife, made in the same factory, on the same line, and call it something else, and insist it's new and original. THAT is the kind of scam that really pisses me off the most. it happens with knives, flashlights, pretty much everything. then they get uppity and tell the owner of the rights that they don't care.

american made Beckers please :)

To hell with it. I've been checking in every few months hoping for Becker news...and got this. I'll appreciate and use my tree choppin' Brute, but move on. There are too many good knives out there to wait around holding my breath any longer. My Manix will do anything a necker can...and more.

Damn it! Just the Necker? What did they do during the past few months? At least SHOT Show will be in January so it's just a couple more months...gotta be patient, I guess...

Thanks for the update but gosh.....they seem to be slipping...USA made is far better from Kabar.

Just got off the phone with Ka-Bar ONLY the san mai necker will be made in china the rest will be made in Olean, NY.

Did they give you any idea what the release dates would be for the other models, or what other models they are picking up?

They just said SHOT show 2009. Thank god I got all the Beckers I wanted minus one back when Camillus was making them the only other one of the line I wanted was the campanion. Still wanna see the necker tac tool and the new designs.

Just received this emailed reply from Kabar.

Sir,

Please see the following link for the first release of the Necker (which
is the only one we promised in September). This has a carbon San Mai
blade and is a limited production. The regular BK11 will be available
(made in the U.S) next month. We will also have available the BK's 2,
3, 7 and 9. We will not be producing the Brut.

Thank you.
Carole

Looks like that BK2,3,7,9,11 are all that will be forth coming.

I'm sure that this will be good news for some,

BUT....... I've been emailing requests to Kabar for the BK1 Brute, BK4 Machax, and BK6 machete, but they are not going to produce them at all!

I sure wish they would have told me this rotten news at some point during the last 5 months I've been in contact with them! :jerkit:

I could have bought some of the over-priced ones on ebay!

luckily i have a user brute, and they are great choppers and hold an edge for a long time. KABAR should reconsider, id rather have the brute over the 9 IMO.

No need to get too upset. You are one of hundreds of customers.....just like myself. I would be happy to get a few from the line they will be releasing soon....:)

I for one will buy whatever they make, as long as it's Ameerkun :)

Long live Becker!

Still love my old skool Beckers. Suh-Wheet. I have a used, slightly beat up Brute, and well, now that I hear they aren't going to be made, EVER again, man, I almost want to keep it as a safe queen. An ugly safe queen to be sure :>

I broke my Effingham made Brute in half, and need replacements. I don't collect............. just use.

Oh my, I sense a proejct right there :) A stubby brute, and the tip portion could be probably turned into something fun.

At the very least, you can sell the handle slabs for $30 to someone that HAS to have them :)
