Dont base too much of your opinion on knifetests.com. Knives are used in real life situations, not in a garage with a guy bashing on it with a sledge.

Agreed. If you base your knife decision on whether or not
it can take blows with a sledgehammer buy a prybar and put an edge on it.

Knife tests are good but if carried out to a non-relevant extreme
they become misinformation.

You mean my knife isn't supposed to be a hammer, pry bar, and ice axe?

All this time I though they were supposed to do it ALL!

No wonder my hammer won't work as a skinning knife!

I can only hope that Phil doesn't see these posts...:D
@noviomagus: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or insult you, I just thought your statement that solid scales are stronger than hollow ones wasn't really big news, especially when the guy with the hockeymask comes into play.;) I've seen the tests from noss and I still love my BK9.
So, take care and enjoy your knives!
@Robert: Thanks for the laugh, drinking coffee while reading such posts isn't the best idea.

yeah I know.
but it is a nice way of seeing how much punishment the blade is able to take.

not saying much about it's performings in daily tasks though.

just the destruction part.that you 'know'it can withstand some punishment.

did you see the youtube video of nutnfancy where he used a benchmade fixed blade in the cold.(forgot the name of the knife.but it is easy to find)
a couple of hacks/chops with the knife on branches and the edge was totaly messed up,big pieces out of it, whereas the RTAKII held up very well.

that kind of weakness shows in doing destruction tests.
you wont get surprised in the bush when you need the knife.

I know there is a lot of 'anti-Nosh-hockeymasguy'.but I do think he has a function too, even beyond the entertainment factor.

but I can understand that knifemakers aren't happy too see a person deliberatly destroy a good knife.
cause that is his goal.doing more and more extreme things until the blade is messed up.totally.

ok then I took it too personal I guess.:foot:

yeah noss.that's his artist name:D

the Becker9 does very well in that 'test'.
it stayed sharp.
and the blade was quite strong.

so it convinced me that it was a tough mfuck:jerkit:er

not saying knives that break easily aren't good for their task=cutting, slicing etc.
but you know then what you can NOT do with it ..

at some point common sense needs to to start being used, in relation to how knives are actually used. anything else is just a tasteless display of tool wrecking.

ymmv

Not sure why this old thread was revived, but it was interesting to read through the early stuff. I'm thinking of buying a couple of Becker knives soon, the Necker, and the Survival or Companion. Can someone tell me, are they still made in the US?

Yes... at kabar's house.

I'm thinking about getting a Bk-7 because i love my Bk-9 but it's just too heavy to sit whittling various things with.

The new Beckers are US made of 1095 Cro Van (Same as the traditional Ka-Bar Marine knife.. The hardness spec KaBar works to is 56-58 HRC.
