Message from Ethan Becker

Hello Ethan!

I have one of the elusive BK8 models.
I've always been curious about how many were made and the ideas behind the design.

I asked for some info about it long ago but folks were tight-lipped about it then.

Can you share any info on it now?

Thanks,
Ten

Hey Bladite...

If I ever figure out how to post pictures I will be happy to oblige...Really ..A COUNTERFIT BK8 !!!..My, my, almost unbelievable...Gibbs is the only one who may know....There might have been 50 warriors but I am pretty sure it was 25...I am sorry my memory is no better, but it WAS over 20 years ago and my memory gets no better....Thanks for the link I am gonna go there now....

All Best...

Man oh man! Talk about a brain fart!
I did a search and found that I'd had this question answered before.
Totally forgot!
Knives on the brain overload!

There were 5 made according to Mr. Gibbs.

Damn I'm dumb.

Glad I've got this rare one though!

Will Ka-Bar be doing the Becker/Ritter collaboration that we saw awhile back. I really liked the looks of it.

Hey TENBEEERS...

If having an occaisional memory lapse makes you dumb, I could probably do a great impersonation of a rock....I do not know your age but at 63 it happens a lot.....Something to look forward to....

Cyblade...

It may happen... Not next year.....I want one too and it could happen...

Jake...

Of course there is time(lol)...........

Hey Ethan, looking to pick up one of your Neckers, maybe I'll stop by SMKW and pick one up from the man himself, I'm about 1 hour from there. Met you at PWYP (took the class you taught the knife session in) this spring, maybe see you there next year.

Hey Mapper66....

I will be happy to see you there...I should be there most of the day...I will try to get Kevin to let me go around three as we have good friends in for the weekend...I am looking forward to renewing our aquaintance....Only 4 months till PWYP....

All Best....

upnorth....

They are good...They look good.... They just did not sell....AND... When the new Camillus made BRUTEs first came out I took one on a camping trip to eastern KY along with a Cincy era MACHAX...I used the dog snot out of the BRUTE for a day and a half and was a VERY happy camper....I then switched over to the MACHAX and IMMEDIAELY realized what a superior cutting and chopping tool the MACHAX is......The last production Cincy MACHAX had the best Blade and edge profiles and the new KA- BAR production will mimic those exactly....NICE picture by the way and I am glad you like it...They DO work...

.

Thanks for the reply Ethan. I poped my lid back in the summer because I was tired of waiting seemingly FOREVER for a word about your new Ka-Bar Becker production. Now they are coming out and they look just like the sweet knives of previous production. I'll be buying as they come out. I'm glad that your knife line survived the transition. The machax is interesting but the old Magnum Camp is one of the more desirable designs, along with several others, that I'm waiting to see come back. Looks like it will be a happy new year for Becker fans!

Hallelujah. I can finally get me a couple more 7's. My happy little off-kilter world will find balance once again...

Ethan: all kidding aside, thanks a ton for working to get these back to market. I bought several similar-sized knives, tested all of them, settled on the BK7 as my outdoor knife, got rid of my others, went to buy more 7's, and found out Camillus was closed. nobody had any Beckers. :grumpy:

thx - cpr

ps - any Magnum Camps in the near future?

Hey upnorth and orca

Thank you for your kind words.....I think you guys will like the new ones...Fit and finish is a little better and the steel is really good....Please let me knoww how you like 'em.....

All Best

can anybody tell me,are those grivory slabs on the handle of the Beckerknives made of massive grivory or hollow slabs?
I never handled a Becker but I consider to buy the Campanian and the Becker7(combat) .or a few of them.they look very tough, trustable knives.I have a grivory
felttip pen made by coldsteel.that grivory is very toug material,busting-resistant.that's for sure.those grivory pens are made for selfdefense.

most of them are solid material, i believe one model has slight hollows.

the replacement micarta handles are quite solid iirc.

all very tough.

not made of "grivory" though.

i've only heard of one case of someone seriously damaging the standard handle slabs, and it involves melting them in a fire. not covered in warranty ;)

it's fantatsic the new stuff is queuing up. i fully intend, shortly, to buy the "fancy" necker in san mai. that's just way too sexy.

not Grivory?
I did read that where they sold them on knifecenter:

KABK7: Becker Combat Utility Knife

Blade Length: 7" 1095CroVan
Overall Length: 12.75"
Blade Thickness: 0.188"
Blade Coating: Black epoxy powder coat
Grind: High, flat saber grind
Handle Material: Full tang, Grivory
Sheath: Black Nylon w/ kydex insert
Weight: 12.9 oz.
Made in USA

what material are those black slabs then made of.
certainly not micarta ?

if they are made of massive grivory then that's fine to me.
