John asked about a contest - we could to either the horseshoes or a slingshot contest.

What kind of contest could we do with a knife?

We could do both contests, we will have all day this time. I`m not sure what we could do with a knife, if anyone even brings one.

i will bring a sweet. you all like apple crisp? i make a good one! ;) i can also bring whatever else. i like making breakfast, so i can bring a bunch of stuff for that (eggs, bacon, sausage, tortillas, etc.), if no one else has volunteered.

P.S. i also plan to bring some snacky stuff. i like to have a log of boar's head genoa salami and some habanero cheese, as well. i'll also be bring a jog o' rum (of course) and i'll bring some VT beers for you guys to try. can't wait!

I could bring something for breakfast on Saturday as well. We can never have enough bacon and eggs.:D

I always crave Cheetos when I imbibe:D, so I will probably bring a bunch of chips and snacks for everyone.

how about some "skills" demonstrations? i know this group has a wealth of knife knowledge. is there anything that you consider yourself pretty good at? if so, i would love to hear it, or better yet...see it, if possible.

for example, if you're pretty good at knife sharpening, i would love to see how you do it.

most of what i have learned is self-taught. i mean...i read up in books or online, but seeing an in-person demonstration is always helpful. i like seeing others' ways of doing things.

i was trying to think of something i could offer. i suppose i could bring a section of leather (and supplies), and anyone that wants to make a sheath could do that. the timing should work. i know at least some of you already know how to do this, but again...i wouldn't mind "comparing notes" either.

don't get me wrong... i don't want to overload our time either. just sitting back and relaxing is also fine with me. ;)

thoughts?

[EDIT] ooh-ooh. any of you any good at whittling? i would love to learn how to whittle a "character" or anything really. that is also good for setting around and drinking. :D

I`ll bring Saturday lunch, jalapeno sausages, and buns.

Since it sounds like we will be having a big breakfast and dinner on Saturday, why don`t we have the sausages for dinner Friday night? We could just do snacks between breakfast and dinner on Saturday.

that works for me. i frequently do that on the weekends anyway.

I have received a few phone numbers whcih have been saved in my phone, thanks all, promise not to use them while drunk :p

as for what I'll bring...any suggestions?

Good idea Todd. I love learning new things.

I may bring my stones and strop if anyone wants to compare sharpening techniques.

You guys are going to have fun it sounds like.
As far as knife games..I always liked chicken as a youngster....:rolleyes:or the opposite where you make your opponent spread their legs, can't remember the name of that one,but it had less dire consequences I do remember.;)

ha!

my dad taught me the game of "jackknife" when i was a kid. well...that's what he called it anyway. essentially it was like H-O-R-S-E with a folding knife. you open it up and find different ways to get it from your body to stick it into the ground. not sure if that makes sense. but for example, you'd balance it on your elbow and then try to drop it in such a way that the blade would stick into the ground.

I know we will need paper plates, forks, (I really hope somebody brings a knife), plastic cups, maybe some soda to go with the alcohol?

It looks like you guys might have breakfast covered. I can bring some stuff to supplement Friday's dinner and also to snack on for an informal lunch on Saturday. I will have Uncle Bill pick up some snacks as well.

Sounds perfect! Don`t forget marshmallows!
