Ok so here's the plan: at Micron Knives we're going, bigger, wilder, and basically just going nutty. We're making knives that shouldn't even exist! We're going beyond skull crushers, blood grooves, and speed holes. We're talking one knife with three blades with three edges each, depleted uranium pommels, built-in smoke screen generators, shuriken launchers, taser probes, and magnets. We're talking nine-layer kyu-mai Magna-everything, stomp-forged beneath the feet of giants, heated in Mount Vesuvius, and quenched in the tears of Bark River knife owners gathered in a haunted mop bucket.

We're making Sharknivco look like it was Sebenza. When our crew rolls into Blade Show, we're all dressed like some iteration of Macho Man Randy Savage and we have backup dancers who follow us around, just dancing non-stop. Win a best-of at Blade? HA! We're bringing our OWN blade competition and giving out fat prizes to whoever we pick as the winners. That will be the talk of every Blade Show: who's gonna win the Micron Competition this year?

I was always kinda puzzled about the buzz around those designs. They just seem so very basic. Not knowing hardly anything about the Survive Saga, I was under the impression that the big whoop about them was simply because they were 3V steel.

Although I am excited to see what they come out with and I do hope they do amazing. I will most likely pick something up from them.

Sarah wanted a turn

I want to change up how the secondary bevels are fixtured. That may delay our drop, but it'll be worth it. Right now the edge can widen pretty easily towards the tip. If we redesign the fixtures, I can write some macros to probe each blade to ensure each side of the blade is perfectly even every time. In the meantime, someone has been bugging me to teach her more about the sharpening side of things.

Of course we want some competition, so the bess tester has been ordered and should show up on Friday.

Heading down to blade show with the parents! Shoot me a message if you're down there and I'll get you a tee shirt. Last year I brought the prototype Maub, this year I'll be bringing a completed knife. Maybe next year I'll have sold one or two LOL.

As for updates, we hit a couple snags that pushed the drop back. The website backend is giving us some problems, along with credit card processing. We are still making hardware and finalizing the sharpening processes. More to come on all of that! Follow our facebook and instagram for more updates.

Not going to be soft here. I feel like I am looking at preorders that are being sold twice. Guy screwed so many people. Don't get me wrong the knives are among my favorite. It just hurts to see any similarities that fit previous survive models . Seeing any old stock being fit into your new model taints it for me. mho

Now that we are almost ready to make our first drop, I can confidently say that reverse engineering the designs and fixturing and replicating surface finishes has been both more time consuming and more expensive than proceeding with our own design. I know these designs are worth continuing the right way
 
So we went to blade show! I am slowly getting back into the groove of things after Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist drugged me. We had a good conversation with him about heat treatment quality management. My main concern at this point is tracking deviations between batches so we can identify issues before product leaves our shop. Currently, we hardness test every blade which gives us a pretty good idea if the heat treatment worked, but not a complete picture. In a conversation with Larrin, he agreed that although not perfect, we can use our charpy impact tester with a set of 10x2.5mm coupons in every heat treat. A charpy impact is not a good test for toughness or edge retention or really much else for the purpose of knives, but deviations would indicate something is wrong beyond hardness. Nathan suggests we go even further with a series of tests, specifically a scratch test with the blade perpendicular to a piece of osage orange, moving side to side. Good news, I've got osage orange in my back yard. Bad news, it's a pretty subjective test. I also met with Tyler who is pretty popular on reddit and instagram for his very detailed hardness tests in which he compares his results to manufacturer claims. He and his dad run a test lab and were very excited to talk about this. They debated which test would best compliment the rockwell tester, but didn't land on one specific test. It'll take a while to determine what our standard deviations will be for impact or edge retention tests, but the sooner we start the more accurate we can be.

On another note, I got my hands on some awesome knives and connected with some really cool people. I was talking with Millit who gave some fun background, specifically with Olive. Unfortunately I did leave with the Schwarz designed overland which I have completely fallen in love with.

Todays project was figuring out how to inspect our engraving and got to the next stage with the website.
