Microtech Is Making "Production" Folders Again! First Run Of STD 2015 Socom Delta

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I purchased a new in the box Socom Delta 163-7 knife yesterday, but I have a few questions about the knife that I am hoping that someone can hopefully answer.

The Socom Delta that I purchased yesterday has a three pin pivot screw that I like, but it is not the standard T30 Torx pivot screw that you see in all of the photos and videos of the older made 2012 and 2013 Socom Delta knives.

I was doing a little research last night on the three pin style pivot screw style and found a youtube video that was made on 7/9/2015 that is showing some new 2015 blade stamped Socom Delta knives and they all have the three pin pivot screws like the one that is installed in my older 08/ 2012 blade stamped Socom Delta knife.

The person that I purchased the knife from said that they are a Microtech Dealer, so I am assuming that they must have received this knife New in the box from Microtech with the three pin pivot screw already installed.

So here are my questions.

1. Did Microtech ever used new old stock Socom Delta blades that were dated 08/2012 with the newer style three pin pivot screws?

2. Could this knife have possibly been a knife that was returned to Microtech and then updated with the newer style three pin pivot screw before being shipped to the dealer for resale?

Now I am also assuming that the three pin pivot screws are the newer style due to the youtube video that I saw that was selling new in the box 2015 blade stamped Socom Delta knives that have S/N's that are in the 4,000 plus range.

I am very interested in the reason that a 08/2012 blade stamped Socom Delta would have the three pin style pivot screw in lieu of the T30 Torx, so any help you can give me on my above questions would be great, thanks for all your time.

The best answer I can give you is that there is no set way of doing things at microtech. Say with benchmade they make a model. It never changes. If they make updates they usually introduce a new model and discontinue the old one. With microtech things can change and evolve all the time. There are tons of whale sharks with torx and a bunch that have triangle pivots. It all depends on the mood at MT and they tend to do each batch a bit unique.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Do not worry about this matter any more, because I just found out that the original owner/dealer sent back the knife to Microtech recently because they were not satisfied with the way that the knife was opening and Microtech replaced the original T30 pivot with the newer style three pin pivot screw during their blade adjustment's to the Socom Delta.

Thanks,

The SOCOM Delta is one of my favorite manual folders...glad to see them back in production! Unfortunately the one I want (clip point blade, satin finish in G10 scales) isn't available (best I can tell). Hopefully they'll be cranking out more soon! Thanks for the heads-up!

Might wanna check gearbarrel.

I just picked up one of the clip point socom deltas; been waiting way too long for this knife. If they do one with a royal blue handle, it will be mine as well.

I'm thinking about jumping on a black aluminum socom for 340. Kind of steep....If only I didn't just spend 600 bucks on some les george knives.

Yeah it looks like they are all G-10 at Gearbarrel.. I think I saw they had a Zombie in alum tho..

I got the A159-4 in the ad video, #4006. It's real nice!

The spine, lock face, and outside of the tang look bead blasted. The detent ramp looks precision machined before the bead blast, it's very smooth. The flats might be a ~400 finish and the bevels are grinder satin.

Looks like the same bearings as 02/2013. The pivot pin holes measure 17/64" outside to outside.

The action is excellent. Blade is centered and will not "shake" out. Zero play in any direction.

Excellent Info Newdebate! I'm glad to hear about the bearings too. The Matrix in my opinion has bearings that let the blade swing a little too freely for my taste. I like the more tightened up feel of the old Socom bearings.

Someone mentioned they want some colors. I just found this sick puppy on Ebay. It's going for $350.

I scooped up a red socom. Very exited. I've wanted one of these for years.

Same here. I have bought a black/black version last month and there was some blade play from font to back. Send it to microtech last week, needed to fill the void for what i assume to be 2 months of not having one in my collection.
