microtech lcc or sebenza

This is *exactly* what I was looking for! I'm looking for a replacement for my Sebenza while it's gettin' engraved and sharpened in the Reeve shop, and I just can't settle for the ol' CRKT... So I found the LCC MA micarta to suit my interests, BUT....

ARE THOSE SPACERS ALUMINUM???

It looks like I may have to splurge for another Sebby while "numero uno" is in the shop...

According the specs the spacers are aluminum. There are three of them spread along the length of the handle instead of one or two at the rear. A very solid knife IMO.

damn... I'm feeling my passion for a LCC dwindling... Does anybody have any opinions on titanium or SS vs aluminum spacers. Obviously they are stronger materials than AL, but how crucial is this weak link?

Aerospace-grade aluminum is incredibly strong. Yes, Titanium is stronger, but Titanium is also much heavier. If you manage to break the spacers on an LCC M/A doing anything other than trying to break them, I'll buy it from you, just 'cause that would be impressive, and I could hang it on the wall. Don't ask me why all engineers seem to like broken products as decorations - ask me about my $900 Haltech fuel-injection computer paperweight (lesson in not letting people who don't know what they're doing, work on a race car)....

Please allow me, though my assistance may have been uninvited, to help you see.

The quality of materials on the Sebenza is better, the fit, finish and execution are two different leagues and while BM screws with their dealers (MAP, etc.) and uses ELU as unsalaried QC inspectors, CRK is always there for their customers and they are real decent folk.

BTW: My various Sebenzas (Sebenzi ?) have never had gritty, grabby sticky lock-up or brand new out of the box blade wobble like the one and only Pinnacle I owned for the 24 hours it took me to get to the Post Office and return it!

I can not compare the LCC and Sebenza since I have never owned a LCC. I have owned a Large, plain Sebenza. This is my opinion of the Sebenza. It is a very nice knife, but I think it is highly overrated, and the price is just beyond me. Heck, if it were me, I would buy a LCC, and a axis lock from Bencmade in your favorite flavor, and you would still have enough left over to buy a discontinued BM 800 AFCK for around $65.
Three production folders or one production folder. It is your choice. Big D1

Nimrod! Well said! They do use ELU for QC! I tried 10 750's before I got one I could live with (in the shop that is) one had blade wobble, two were of centre, one was so hard to disengage the lock bar it was funny to watch the assitant struggle

The others were fine and luckily the model I wanted was OK. I went for the satin plain edge.

I've owned a Sebenza in one form or another for about 6 years. I have an older style large but didn't really care for the ergonomics. Then the new style came out and I bought one about 4 years ago. It has been my EDC since. It does everything well and some thing superbly. It is not much to look at but then again neither is an old government issue .45. In my opinion both are beautiful pieces of work. Function can be beautiful. Keep it simple. The fewer things there are, the fewer that can go wrong. The Sebenza has never let me down. I have total and complete faith in it. There are few things I can say this about.

I picked up an LCC/DA. It was a neat knife but I wouldn't dream of carrying it or it's MA brother everyday.

As far as a used Sebenza being worth $100 less than a new one. That is just silly. A Sebenza that has been used, even used hard can be made to look like new for a $25 or so. Like I said I've used, carried, sharpened mine for 4 years and it is still a great knife. I see no reason to send it in.

If I could own only 1 knife (God forbid!) it would be a Chris Reeve Small Sebenza.

If I could own only 2 knives I would buy a spare.

Another opinion...

I received a Camillus EDC, BM940 and a small Sebenza two weeks ago..in two days. I don't work with many knife knuts but the person I trained in for my last job seemed to like knives...so...I handed them over and asked. "Which do you like best..feel, looks, over all?" No one had an idea of price.

After a bit of handling and a few cuts, I was handed the Sebenza, "This one". I inquired why..."Cuts good, looks practical".

I assured her she had good taste...

If you ever want some excitement just start a thread about the Sebenza

I have a couple of Sebenzas. They aren't very visually appealing to me but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I really appreciate the precision with which the Sebenza is made. It is made with first rate materials. The Sebenza is a true work of art based on precision, fit, and finish alone. That being said it isnt very ergonomic or attractive to me. The handles just aren't very comfortable.

I also have several LCC's. Fit and finish on all are excellent, not up to par with the Sebenza but well above average none the less. The LCC is heavier, but not so heavy that it bothers me. I actually prefer a little weight to a knife anyway. The ergonomics are better than the Sebenzas and it looks better to me.

While I appreciate the Sebenza I would choose the LCC. The Sebenza may win in the precision category but not enough to make me choose it over the LCC.

I am one of the people that believe the Sebenza is about $100 over priced. I think it could also use a makeover in ergonomics.

If you keep an eye on the for sale forum you can often find a new or like new Sebenza for a decent price.
