Microtech made in China, yep

As I mentioned before, I'm a die hard Star Wars fan. I really, really want a Jedi Master Ultratech/UTX. I like the Sith Lord, but there are no "Star Warsy" markings on it, other than the black handle and red blade and therefore not worth the money in my opinion.

I hope maybe this change means that these will be flooded on the exchange/secondary market as people abandon ship. This would be the only way I'd consider buying one.

There has always been the joke that Microtech and MTech are the same company. Soon to no longer be a joke?

I think I may buy a black OTF of some sort, have the blade cerakoted or similar red, and just put some Empire stickers on it. Today I'm dressed as if a Sith Lord worked at an office. Red Polo, black shorts with red zipper internal cargo pockets, Darth Vader watch, death star ring, and my Southard with red CF scale.

I haven't had a eye for microtech, visually they haven't interested me.
This just strengthens the fact that one won't find it's way to my pocket.

I wonder what made them choose Rike?

Will we also see Rike branded OTF's now?
Unless the Federal Switchblade Act gets repealed, they won't be importing OTFs from anywhere.

I am not a fan of Microtech, but I'm also not vehemently against buying knives made in China. However, my collection has grown so large, and the need to cut it down to size so pressing, that I've lately come to the conclusion that I feel a lot more pride of ownership in my non-China-made knives. So I have sold off all of them with the exception of a Quiet Carry Drift and a few CRKT Squids.

A couple of the reasons I'm not a fan of Microtech can be found here (my username is Sancho_IV_of_Castile on reddit):

It's possible that their unwillingness to work on that guy's Matrix was related to the patent lawsuit with ZT/KAI.

Lucasfilm doesn't have a trademark for "Sith" related to knives, just books, TV/movies/media, toys, and clothes/costumes/similar. So Microtech can co-opt the name without violating an established trademark, which they couldn't do with any "Star Warsy" markings. Similarly, the mythosaur logo they use on the Bounty Hunter is trademarked for a number of categories, but none explicitly related to knives/cutlery; the closest is "gymnastic and sporting articles (except clothing)," which probably isn't enough to cause problems.

Ah, I wondered about that. I think I'd rather go a customized route for sure, make it my own.

Reate and WE are either not accepting new customers or have extended wait periods. I’m sure Rike can just pump’m out quicker and for less money, albeit at a lower quality.
Have you ever handled a Rike?

If they're only moving the production of some of their knives: just don't buy those knives...

I haven't. I took a gamble on a Bestech, after hearing people rave about their build quality, and it was very underwhelming. Rike may be better in terms of build quality, but their reputation is shoddy for using others' knife designs without consent.

I bought a budget Bestech Fanga and it was about eighty. Very nice for the money no flaws whatsoever, flips great for a huge blade, even grinds, very well fitted lockup. Way smoother than the Rike, that cost 125.

I dumped all the Chinese garbage out of my collection. Who knows if what they sell you is what it is supposed to be. I simply won't have that trash in my collection.

Microtech has sold out. What a shame, but I guess this is the way of the world these days. Won't be buying anymore of that stuff....
