Did I spy a Gravitator blade with a nightmare grind and a spyderhole? The wharncliffe designs alone make Mr. Snody a very interesting maker to me.

Mikes quality, fit and finish is very hard to beat.

This is a great thread with some great makers (mike and Mike)
some great collectors (STeven)

And a great bunch of hormonal crap posted so far by almost everyone else!

I am sitting here, greatly amused.

Hi Mike Snow-day . You are a talented maker and I wish you well. Your satin finish and sharpness is in the top 5% of makers. I am not a huge fan of hollow grinding, but I still like a lot of your knives--particularly the ones that come from your brain--Not Janich's or someone else's, but yours alone. I really like the drop point with a "real" pinned on guard on your website. Nice looker and I bet it cuts. I look forward to seeing you at the next show.

Mike Lovett, I wish the same for you although you just cannot figure out when not to hit the "send" button! I love your stuff (without polyester pearl) and so does everyone else. Last time I checked, guys who where 3-5 years behind really do not need to defend their livelihood or their work! Your lag time speaks for itself. Really! We have all seen your knives up close and know how good you are. That does not make you an expert on collecting. ... Or the market... or bladeforums--

Like most good makers, you are an expert on your knives and their influences. When you start spending 10-20K a year on handmade knives for your own personal collection, people will start listening to your opinions about building a collection or buying knives for a collection, same to other makers who are on this thread.

I normally let people along with this type of thing especially arrogant remarks. However,

Then comes along the collector. I always wondered why Bob hated collectors so much in general. Now I know. Nothing you do, nothing you produce, no matter what the cost to you, your health, family. Matters. Only the bottom line matters to many of them.

You want to rethink that there quote Bubba?

Guys I Honestly had no idea there was some kind of Collector/Knifemaker "fued" going on here at Bladeforums.

I mean that in all Honesty!!

I had No Idea there was this kind of friction and terrible relationship present.

Snody Knives collectors are Snody Knives Family.

My Shop is Open Six Days a Week to my Clients!

I have worked for two years and invested tens of thousands of dollars in my retail store, phiotography equipment, forums and coming next week my series of DVD's.

I have done all of this for the collectors and clients of SnodyKnives.

My Knives have steadily appreciated for seven years.

I post knives daily showing my valued clients the progress as their Snody Custom Knives are being made.

What I am trying to say is my Clients are My Best Friends!

You guys really need to visit SnodyLand and see exactly what we do for our clients!!!

This hostility here is unreal.

Anthony, look forward to seeing you again my friend!! I always enjoy listening to your perspective on things!!!

Everyone Else please have a great evening and visit SnodyLand often.

Mike,

There is no real hostility here. There are people(YES, PEOPLE) expressing again, that awful word, "opinions", frankly, without varnish, unlike "other" forums where all you see is "Dude, you rock so hard!!"

Well, me and a bunch of other Forumites....we actually BUY knives, instead of talk about it. I own two from Lovett, and about 48 other makers.

When I go to a show like the Evening of the Cutlery Arts, I carry more than adequate cash with me, and a checkbook. It might not all stay in the room, but it might, depends on what I see.

A lot of "other" places, they "just" talk about it. You said that "making knives is your life", well for me, I buy them. That simple.

Look forward to seeing your work at Huntington Beach.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Yes Jerry, In that it was supposed to read "Dealers", rather than collectors. Sorry!:foot:
I will go back and correct this. Mike

seems to me all the BUY SNODY KNIVES posts would be considered spam in any other forum here on BF.

Four pages of vitriol and not a single "Lick my sack!" I am so disappointed.

Spence:

With all fondness, dude, its time to consider a nice decaf.

Mike:

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? That "hater" nonsense is right out of middle school. I kept waiting for you to yell "Meany".

You all play nice now. I'm going to make some popcorn and settle in for the fun.

I was wondering when someone would point this out.

It seems a little odd that the first poster only had a few posts and then along comes Snody:barf:

...and don't forget to visit SnodyLand:barf:

Yep Decaf mellows me out to much, you know having calmed down a bit this thread really is a disapointment. I have a hard time when peoples opinions cross what i consider a fine line. I work my ass of at my army job come home and unwind in the shop, work on knives that folks have come to like for using and some have purchased for safekeep. So it should be no surprise when it gets to be a personal matter when people seem to go out of there way to impart negitive stuff based on mere crystal ball forcast. How can you ( K999) really predict the market in 5 years......its really a simple question and if you would care to post your findings i would really like to read them.

I do know one thing when myself and makers like Mike snody, ken brock , james coogler , neil blackwood, mike burch, mike lovett , mick strider and Mr emerson pass on we will be remember for being knifemakers. The knives that we build will still be getting used and possibly collected. Correct me if i am wrong but i just do not see many folks talking about how great this certain collectors was "hey remember so and so gosh he really could predict the market" from even five years ago?

Spencer,

Didn't you say that you were leaving, with great fanfare? Funny how many that say that, come back, later.:D

I don't have a crystal ball. I predict trends, and I know when Great is Great, and good is good, and when sucky is sucky.

How? 20+ years of looking at and buying knives, with some great teachers, and a healty dose of cynicism.

There was a time when buying and selling knives was a 50 hour a week job/career choice for me, and I was good at it. I still do it part time.

Of the makers that you listed, only one(Emerson) has gone the test of time, and frankly, although about 15 years ago, he made a great knife, he squandered his talent on mediocrity, and got paid/continues to get paid, well for it. Does not make it any less a shame.

You listed 8 makers that I assume are friends and peers. I can list 50 off of the top of my head that are friends and peers, and there is likely to be 1/2 of them that you have never heard of.

Collectors/Dealers that will be remembered in the long run, Paul Charles Basch,Albert Blevins, Phil Lobred, Bob Neal, Les Robertson, AG Russell, Barry and Nate Posner, Butch Winter....as much as any single maker, and maybe more than a few. Some of these names may be foreign to you, but it makes them no less important.

There is a sword collector named Walter Compton that is more remembered in this country than ANY single sword makers with the exception of Masamune, and Yoshindo Yoshihara.

I don't know everything, and neither do you, and I have not called you a derogatory or inflammatory name yet, nor am I some nameless punk hiding behide a keyboard, either, like so many of the "others".

I recognize that you are a hard working person with an opinion, and I welcome you to share that opinion, and all I ask is the same courtesy in return.

I have been burned by makers, and don't post those experiences, to give the maker some chance at redemption. I ask that you try to see the knife world through my eyes. I have made knives, but also have, and will always make more money doing the other things that I do. You gonna' hate me for that?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Not gonna get involved in the emotions but I will tell you that as someone who produces 30-40 sheaths a month as a part time sheathmaker I handle alot of knives, from cheap production knives to high end customs.
Snody and Spencer both make a very high quality product.
And might as well mention if you dont know, Snody, Sr. produces some awesome leatherwork and some of the finest quality exotic skin belts made.
You can see them at Snodyland.
