Military grade fixed blade

"iirc: the Fallkniven S1 and A1 are both approved for use by US and NATO forces in the field. i believe the F1 is shorter than US/NATO specs.

the F1 is the standard Swedish Air Force knife.

i could be wrong. "

You are half right.
The black F1 and S1 are approved by US. The A1 is probably also in the system.

The F1 is issue Sw AF and can be found in a small pouch on the left thigh on the flight suit.

I would still go with the multitool and a F1. I know the zytel sheath looks ugly but it is very practical. I guess you can spray paint the sheath sand if you want to.

I'm pretty sure this is what he's talking about. your better off getting him some straight tin snips, and making a kydex sheath for molle HAHA :D

Too lazy to download and imageshack the photo

sounds like he never sharpened the knife and still try to slice through, would cut metal banding all the time with old Spyderco Endura and Cold Steel Voyager among others. With nicer, newer knives always put a little notch in it and twist, pull to snap and remove it.

Multitools are the greatest though, I still use the same one for the past 8 years for all types of things.

Ahhh metal banding, lol thanks guys, that cleared things up alot. Knowing him, I'll bet his base had a bunch of tin snips laying around, but decided it would be "faster" to use the knife haha (face palm).

Granted if he had a full serrated saber ground blade instead of a thinner chisel ground full plain edge...there would've been much less damage. I think he actually tried to sharpen it b/c you could see the tell-tale grind marks and scratches all along the sides of the knife...yeah he's not a knife guy at all lol. He even had the balls to tell me that the knife was a bit of a "let down" to him in that the edge was damaged from cutting metal...but was also too hard to sharpen...(face palm) lol definetly not a knife guy.

When I told him about the Emerson knife, I think he bought into the "Hard Use knives" marketing too much...yeah hard use..but not abUSE...that's one friend who i'll never lend a good knife to ever lol :p

That's because ESEE knives are equally as good if not better for less $ and a better warranty. For some reason Tops' website isnt working right now and I wanted to see how the warranty was similar/different than ESEE so i googled "tops knives warranty" and the first thing I saw was "This warranty becomes null and void if the knife is abused" (this was from tops' website) And I closed the browser window right there. ESEE is no questions asked, you break it, we replace it free.

I'm just going by the catalog says "forever warranty " that would lead me to believe. That it covers everything. But I may be wrong and who knows their definition of abuse may be if u stuck it in a vise and tried to brake it. And if ur doing that outside of testing in a non combat environment. Then I don't think any company should honor the warranty. But that's just me and I highly doubt u will ever brake a tops under any type of hard use/combat environment. But even if u did and the company does give u another one. It's going to take far longer to get it back then your going to want to be without it. That's y no matter what kind or how good your gear is if it's first/second line you want spars. Fate favors the prepared.

I agree bro, I dont think a good Tops knife would ever snap under any conditions short of intentionally trying to break it, and neither would an ESEE. However, ESEE would replace it even if you did intentionally break it. Tops wont. I like that assurance. Not to mention the price.

I have spoken to TOPS and to Fuller. He fixes and replaces them all the time especially for the guys in forward positions. They are all American over there. EESE is the same way. You break it, they replace it. It is part of what you are paying for. FYI. Kabar/BK will do it as well.

Based on what I've heard about the sandbox, I'd take knives I wouldn't be too hard off to replace (so ~$100ea) but have good faith in: so Spyderco Paramilitary or Military (as a folder), just about any good pliers multitool, and an ESEE 4.

Thats awesome. Any american knife maker who makes knives suitable for military use and wont replace them for US Troops (whether they break it on their fault or not) needs to be shot.

Not these guys. These guys bleed Red, White and Blue. Trust me on this. Their colors do not run..

If you are after hot you can't go past Fallkniven.

The cols steel SRK is also good but then, you may as well get better quality and go with the A1 instead!

good o'l AMERICAN now how

And good o'l AMERICAN BOYS

GOD BLESS THE THE US

What is his potential MOS? High-end fixed blades will be wasted, for the most part...often times in the modern military theyre frowned upon. Get a multi-tool, and a good folder (Benchmade, Spyderco, Strider, ZT, etc).

Yes this really is the question. It has Been asked a couple of time's. I haven't seen an answer so far . Guess we all got to coaut up in the knives. "Go figure lol" but really that is the deciding factor. If u can't untill you know this one and the other's that posted the same thing would be the best idea. U hear about a lot of privates going into basic with huge blade's even nice custom's that they never get to use. That would suuuuuuuck.

Regarding a good quality fixed blade, two other brands to consider are some Entrek and Blackjack products.
