Military Service Poll

What units?

David,

The only fleet unit I was with was MWSS-374. The squadron had just converted to a fleet unit from the supporting establishment Aviation Ground Support Element. The conversion was a thankless challenge. The company grades and NCO's were consumed, and the field grades all made full bird.

You have a list of first rate units you have served with. I understand that the 0411 role did not take much of your time; I am guessing you did not find it particularly challenging, either? Good work on picking up the embark role; typically, the log shop smart guys get staffed out to support a struggling supply shop or busy armory.

Actually, it wasn't that it wasn't challenging ( it was a pretty challenging MOS ) but the MSgt I worked for was an Embarker and he needed more embarkers and figured we had more than enough maintenance managers so I got voluntold for a secondary mos. I spent my 0411 time doing the weekly report to C.O. for my Lt and making sure the other MIMMS guys did our job. ( that was at 10th Marines) but it actually turned out to be good training for me and when I went to 4th Marines I ended up as the only 04 in the Regt when 9/11 hit and I got a NAM for running the 4 shop during the first month of the war. ( on Okinawa the 4th Marines S-4 shop is the lead for the island so I got to relay every item that flew into Afghanistan for the first month of the war). I guess that old top knew what he was doing when he said cross training never hurts a career.

Ironically enough, my first real civilian job is as a maintenance manager at a university.

Everyone should get to camp out in a monsoon! Or two! And breath mosquitoes. "This Army is All Right".LOL The quote kinda sums up the whole experience.
