Military Service Poll

I might add to this by thanking all of those who served and didn't have to. Back in my day unless you were just married, in school or had a medical problem, you were going. I was in boot camp when I got a letter from my Mom telling me that I had just received my draft notice. SO to those who served because it was the right thing to do, Thanks.

I had decided early in high school to join the Navy so It was always in my plan.

I'll second Jim's thank you. There was never any question that I would be a Marine (a career in the Marine Corps was a family tradition going way back). The thought of being drafted never even occurred to me back in '63. Like Jim, serving was just the right thing to do.

The last draftee in the Army was finishing his 2 years with the XVIII Abn Corps while I was at Ft. Bragg.

KR1 Sounds like we walked the same ground a time or two. I was in 2/6 Inf at Ncnair Kaserne 82-83 . I use to volunteer for a lot of patrols on the Berlin Wall with the scouts. Gotta love those old gun jeeps with the mounted m-60s. We went to W Germany a lot to train so I've worked with the Cav on the border there too. Scouts Out and Airborne All the Way

That's neat. A whole other military remembrance category, too. My brother was in the Army band at Ft. Dix (then they got sent to Vietnam). Grover Washington Jr. was in the band with them, too.
