Mini 14

http://www.falfiles.com/index.php

7.62 NATO caliber
Used by many NATO countries as a main battle rifle.
Can be built from kits/parts. Would probably be a cinch for you to build with your shop.

Receivers can be purchased that are made by Imbel, a Brazilian company that makes high quality forgings. Imbel makes the forgings for Springfield 1911's.

DSA is one company that sells FAL kits and full rifles of high quality. http://www.dsarms.com/

Is it "EFF, AY, ELL" or FAL that rhymes with gal? Either way I guess.

I go with the "gal" myself.

What is an FAL?

Oh my... aside from the M1, back it in its time it was THE 308 rifle. My country (Israel) used the piss out of it in many wars, its like a workhorse, not pretty, a bit heavy but works day in and out. but there is not mistaking it... its a military platform.

Now about that Mini 30... i wont trade mine, but i will trade my spare one:D are you serious about it? You can get after market wooden stock easily, i have polymer stock, its a new model and that is what they come with. I personally love mine. It did not cost much to upgrade. My gunsmith placed glass bedding and chamfered the barrel. So far i have been out shooting my friends AK and SKS with it. I love this style of rifle. it is by far my favorite.

Let me know if you are serious on a trade... and by the way did i mention my lust after the Machetes:D:D:D:D

I'm smiling from ear to ear! Totaly interested.

Is there any way to make one a bit less tactical though? Is there one with a wooden stock?

I really hate the look of the AR 15. I'll likely just buy more SKS's and stick with that if it comes to having to have an AR 15.

Speaking of my SKS, I've got the stock all sanded down and it'll get a re-finish job this weekend.

There were some nice montecarlo stocks on the market for the SKS at one time...

You'll like the mini-30 Andy...imagine an M-14 (or M-1 carbine). meets an SKS in a dark room with a little Barry White playing in the background. The mini-30 is the offspring.

ARs are good rifles, better when polished. I do like the accuracy but it really does take a lot of rounds to break one in good. I don't really care for the looks of them anymore myself...nor do I like the knock down power or range...or rather the lack there of. I prefer a .308 round myself (and I'm not so much into autos anymore) If you want to spend the money on a hell of a rifle you should check out the SOCOM M-1A

I have nothing bad to say about the Springfields. they are awesome.

To me they are my MIni 14 on steroids. i have a Springfield Scout and a Springield M1A standard. I really enjoy those rifles, and a lot can be done to make shooting them more pleasant.

Just so you know.... Ruger now has the Mini 14 in the new 6.8 calibar. Its basically western world's answer to the 7.62x39. has better balistics, but ammo is much harder to find. much harder in my experience.

ummm... think you meant to say M1A, and not HK91, 'cause there ain't no gas system, or piston on the 91 or 93 (or MP5).

it's roller delayed blowback. which means that it makes a mess inside the receiver and mags.

you are absolutely correct - I knew better than that, must have been having a brain fart when I posted. Thanks for fixing it!

Actually I think it was more meant to the Mini-14 as the low-cal version of the M-1A :) but we do have the same opinion, they are absolutely awesome rifles. There is a reason why the Marines and the SEALs still use the M-14 on a fairly regular basis today, and why the Marines delayed in switching from the M-14 to the M-16 for standard issue.

Whoa. Mini 30 has arrived. Neato. Really a lot like my beloved M1. Carbine city. Shooting it tomorrow.

I like mine
I have wood stock on when it's in California
Butler Creek folding stock and flash supressor when it's in Colorado
The "2 evil features" stuff here in Cali:mad:

I have no problems with the accuracy
Every gun forum has a mini-14 vs. AR-15 thread
They all say that the mini 14 is inaccurate
I think it is easier to clean than an AR-15 too..........

Well after reading this thread and coming across a sweet deal on a Mini 14 GB I'm taking delivery of it tommorrow. Thanks Andy for making me spend money.....

I did take the camera, but I never got it out of the bag. I was aggrivated at the time and got distracted so i forgot to take pictures. Sorry guys.

I shot rabbits at 50 meters with my mini 14 with iron sights.

The AR-15 is overly complicated with too many moving parts in my opinion. Fine if you are backed by an armorer I suppose, personally I'd rather have a .30 carbine
