Mini paramilitary 2?

I had hoped a mini PM2 would have a little thinner blade stock than the existing PM2. That said I'll reserve judgment until I can get one in hand. I have confidence Spyderco will make the idea into a fine knife.
Thank you Sal and the Spyderco team for listening to your customers requests! I will certainly do my part to make sure sales of this particular knife are good.

I think having a Military, PM2, and a Militia would be awesome. It's a perfect name as a Militia is made up of non-enlisted civilians, the most likely buyers of a knife like this and I've yet to find a single knife with this name. Gadsen Flag or Culpeper Minutemen Flag scales in G-10 would just guzzle the money from my bank account. It's not out of the realm of possibility either as they already do this with their budget folders the Resilience, Tenacious, and Persistence. Those sell like crazy.

My next purchase will be a Military, I've already started looking at prices. Having the other end of the scale (smaller PM2) would complete the set and satisfy my OCD. I will get the Resilience and Persistence after I get the Military, to satisfy my OCD of course! I will probably buy those 3 next month, which after all is fast approaching! In less than a month I've bought 4 Spyderco knives (Delica, Tenacious, PM2, and Manix 2). If they build it we will buy it. At this point they can't take my money fast enough!

P.S.- Making it by next year would be great for the USA's 240th!

I'd vote for minuteman as the name for it, rather than milita. Gives it a certain made-in-the-USA touch. I see a mini-PM2 as viable so long as the handle ergos don't get wonky when it gets shrunk. No doubt that the folks at Spyderco will do just that, I don't think I have an uncomfortable Spyderco yet. glad to have come across this thread as I now know what I need to be saving up some cash for...

We've got a shorter para 2 in R&D. Being refined now. Heigth, cockpit and thickness are the same, just shorter at both ends.

Incredible news. So it has been recognized this is a legit demand. I for one am glad to hear this and thank you for chiming in with the hints of r&d.

THat is what the Military being the large and the Para2 being the smaller would meet.

Have you ever held or owned a Griptilian/Mini Griptilian? They are nowhere near the size of a Military...

Minuteman is already the name of an Old Timer knife.

Thank you Mr.Glesser, I had hope and saved my money. Now the waiting begins! Thanks for listening.

Indeed (own about 13 of them), but it is a completely differently designed knife, different ergos, locking mechanism, etc.

You own 13?! I think we need to start a new thread about your collection.

I would be in for a smaller sized PM2, kind of like large and small sebenza--exact same knife but shrunk down.

I was aware of the Old timer knife, Pops has one. While researching the PM2 last night I came across the PM1. It was amazingly a smaller version of the current PM2?

PM2
length overall 8.281 " (210 mm)
blade length 3.438 " (87 mm)
length closed 4.812 " (122 mm)
cutting edge 3.078 " (78 mm)
weight 3.9 oz. (111 g)
blade thickness .141 " (3.5 mm)

PM1
length overall 7.875" (200 mm)
blade length 3.093" (81 mm)
length closed 4.75" (121 mm)
cutting edge 2.938" (75 mm)
weight 3.75 oz (108 g)
blade thickness .156" (4 mm)

Taking a little off the bulb at the bottom of the handle of around .125 to .15" while taking the blade length down .093" to an even 3.00" on the PM1 and were talking perfection. It would technically be a new knife with an ever so slightly steeper grind on the spine of the blade and the small amount off of the bottom of the handle. This would probably make it lighter by a quarter ounce or so, which would be another benefit. You could do this with the PM2 also, you'd just need to take a little more. I'm actually thinking of doing this myself. I'd start with a new PM2 though, leaving my 1st untouched. I've made tools for work from scratch so it wouldn't be my first go at modifying or making something that works for me.

I carry my EDC folders in the change pocket of my jeans mostly. The 4 knives I have are the Delica, Tenacious, Manix 2, and PM2. The Delica has a Lynch deep carry clip and fits perfectly without bottoming out in the pocket. The rest use original clips. The Tenacious doesn't bottom out in the change pocket at 4.45". The Manix 2 fits just perfect at 4.625" being just a hair from bottoming out. The PM2 has to be canted and is the only one that I can consciously feel in that pocket. The PM2 in my regular pockets is a just a little long even there, I don't notice the others in that position at all. It comes in at 4.812", I love it so much that I carry it anyways though. I feel the PM1 (the PM2 would be a little more but it's do-able) with those very slight changes would be a perfect EDC/Work blade. I wouldn't mind the .156" thickness of the PM1 either, it would be a tuff as nails middle sized knife for sure.

Damn, I might have to change my purchase plans for this month and get a second PM2 to play with?

Their R&D process will assure that the knife is reasonably proportioned. They appear to go through a lot of iterations where they make very small changes to refine their designs.

Personally I can't imagine that the PM2 would be too big for anybody but apparently there are some jurisdictions with silly laws that would prohibit it. I think the Sage is the perfect answer there. I like the looks of the Sage and I would really like to buy one but they are too small for me, I would never be able to use it.

I Love the paramilitary 2! Especially my green CTS-204P model. But if there was one thing I wished, it was that it was just a bit smaller. If this comes out, I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy every iteration!!!! Thanks, Sal, for the update! I can't wait to see it!

Ok its 8:00PM. Surely the mini PM2 is rolling off the assembly line by now! Sal? :eagerness:

I'd like to see a Ford Mustang with 700 horse and gets 50mpg but this thread is titled mini paramilitary 2 so I won't post about it here.

Utterly awesome to hear this.
Will buy 2 of these, for myself and a mate, at the first available opportunity.
Sal and Spyderco rock.

Excellent news. Ever since I got my first para 2 I was hoping for a 3" version to come out. Glad to see that Spyderco is listening to their customers. I will buy one for sure!
