Mnandi: My latest Obsession

Dino,

that is a beautiful and truly special Box Elder Mnandi!
Cheers

Franz, your collection is spectacular!
I'm blown away by all the amazing types of Damascus steel you have in your collection.
Am I hallucinating or did you have a Zebra as well in the past?

Cheers

J

Thanks J, it took awhile but I finally scored my BE with a touch of red. Your not hallucinating about the Zebra, it just happens to be with me, so I guess franz and I are in-laws:D

Ha ha!
I thought so!
I'm looking forward to getting my first two Mnandi (yes I seem to have bought another today) and posting up some pics of my own.

Welcome to the club, I had 2 on the way to me before I had ever seen one in person. One was the Mammoth I still have, the other was a bloodwood that was super nice but is long gone. I have never had anything in Zebra, I would give anything to have a zebra Mnandi!

Thanks for the welcome Franzdom.

Funny thing is I remember looking at Chris Reeve's site years ago, and falling hard for the Mnandi but never enough to order.
I just happen to have some down time this week and found BF.
Wow!
What a collection of amazing and passionate folk.
It's great to join a group of folks who "get" our passion

Cheers

this thread!
Keep 'em coming "Mnandi-holics"!

You're spot on Jos! I think it ought to be a rule that whenever the Mnandi thread slips lower than page one ..... someone must buy a new Mnandi and post a pic!!!!

Dennis,

how about a "State of the State" of the collection series of posts from you, Lisa, Dino, Franzdom and others to wrap up the year?
I know we have a number of members that have multiple Mnandi's and some collections have changed significantly as you each work towards the perfect collection?
What say you?

(It would help me as I wait for my first two Mnandi's to get to me)

Cheers

I can do that. I have one more incoming today or tomorrow, then I'll post a whole enchilada, kit-n-kaboodle, State of the State shot. :D

Well Jeff .... as luck would have it ..... I cast my line and hooked one from the bay on Christmas Day! If it gets here on schedule (tomorrow afternoon), will try another family shot!! Yeah .... I know I said I was done ..... but I needed one more to make for an even number!!! But .... am already getting excited thinking about Lisa's whole enchilada pic!!

Mine are all regular bladesteel, but I can post a family pic, too, if you like.

LW, just because I have a love of Damascus steel don't mean I don't want to see non Damascus Mnandi's.
I would very much like to see your Mnandi collection

J

Lisa,

I'm a little gobsmacked here.
Wow! That's an impressive collection of Mnandi's.
Let me know when you get tired of the Box Elder third from the top on the right.
And the Lignum on the left
And....

Cheers
J

Here they are with a better camera, Box Elder is my 2nd most sentimental one:

Yeah,
I love this Giraffe Mnandi, I've not seen anything like it.
It's clear why you love this one.
Did it come with the Damascus?
And what year was Chris making these?

J

I don't know the particulars on the Giraffe Bone as it didn't come with a birth card.
It's my only Franken-Nandi as someone called it. Since it had an overhaul.
I took the damascus blade from another Mnandi and then with full disclosure sold that knife with just the regular blade that was originally on the Mnandi.
I don't plan on doing that again, but the outcome was brilliant and since there was no documentation on the Giraffe bone I decided to transform it into my favorite Mnandi.
In hind sight I would have sent this in to have Chris Reeve make a spare damascus blade for it, but I was either too impulsive or didn't know those were options at that time.

It's beautiful and definitely a keeper.
Personally I think the Damascus was tailor made for this knife.
Thanks Lisa

J
